Importance of schools
Why are schools established? And why do we go to school? These are pertinent question to answer before delivering into the subject matter.
At the center of universe is man and man needs knowledge in order to live. Every needs or desires has to be learned, discovered and produce by his own choice, by his own effort and by his own mind. School is a place where teaching, training and learning takes place in order to improve knowledge and develop skills. We go to school in order acquire knowledge. Learning is a treasure that follows its owner everywhere.
Man’s action and survival require the guidance of values dervieved from knowledge. This is directed by reason, and the process thinking. Thinking requires a state of full, focused awareness, and it is volitional.
Every achievement of man is a value in itself, but it is also a stepping-stone to greater achievements and values. Life is growth, life remains life, only so long as it advances. Every step upwards opens to a man a wider range of action and achievement. The problem of survival is solved, by recognizing that survival demands constant growth and creativeness.
Based on the foregoing, the opportunity to go school is one of the best things that can happen to an individual in his/her life. If you’re privileged in this regard, count yourself blessesd. Many are willing to go to school, but do not have someone to pay their fees. Schools teaches one to choose actions, values and goals by the standard which is proper to man in order to achieve, maintain and fulfill, and enjoy that ultimate value, which is one own life.
Inquiry into students life reveals issues about their behaviors and it is essential to drum into them what is expected of them while nothing the consequences of some actions which they make take.
As, a student, everyday school is open, you wake up, bathe, eat, dress up and go to school. Do you take time to reflect on this everyday activity? You must consider (i)mental growth (ii) Academic performance (iii) Spiritual growth (iv) Friends (v) Organization (vi) recreation: Sports, Hobbies, Exercise (vii) Problems (vii) Self image qualities; to check whether they are adequate. or require a change.
In growing as a person, the is necessity of self-communication which should be balanced with good interpersonal relation. According to Socrates: ”the unreflected life isn’t worth living”. The beauty of living is free will to choose . As a student do you choose? You are free to evade reality, and free to unfocused your mind, but not free to avoid the abyss which you refuse to see. To choose not to be conscious means to choose the penalty of unconsciousness: destruction.
With this introduction in mind school should mean to any well-meaning student the following:
(a) A Place of academic excellence: Two essentials of the method of. Survival proper rational being are: thinking and productive work. Success in academics can only be achived through hard work, and hard work is the cheapest way to an accomplished life. When you despise hard work, you have made a choice for a hard life. For you to succeed you, you must have a strong desire to learn and some worthwhile plans. It’s all in the state of mind, and success begins with a fellow’s will. You must recognize school as a place of academic pursuit and as such do all your assignments, test projects given to you and copying them or stealing them from other students; you must always be In class when lesson are going on and not loitering from one place to another, you must copy notes and steal notes books of other students; you must study when others are studying and not constitute a nuisance, disturbing others. A good beginning makes for a good ending. Try working hard today, for hard work does not kills it only refines.
(b) To be disciplined: This means to learn to obey rules to control the way one behaves. ” A man of character will make himself worthy of any position.
As a student, if the rules says: do not steal, you shouldn’t steal, if you’re disciplined. If it says: do not engage in exam malpractice, you should not; do not bully other students; do not join secret cults; do not violate other students right, please, take heed, do not do them.
If you attempt to live, not by means of reason, but by means of brute force, by stealing, cheating in exams, joining cults and engaging in other vices, you are attempting to live by a method of animals. But just animals would not be able to survive by attempting the methods of pants, so you cannot survive by attempting the method of animals, by rejecting reason. You may achieve your goal for the range of moment, at the price of destruction: your own destruction. To be disciplined means the recognition and acceptance of reason is one’s only score of knowledge, one’s only judge of values and one’s only guide to action.
(C) A Place To Know about God: the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do this commandments
Psalm 111:10 God reserves the best for every man who is willing to walk in his truth. Schools teaches you about God and his truth. If you know this and apply it, you will succeed. ”Whosoever follows instructions, loveth knowledge, but hr that hateth reproof is brutish. A good man obtaineth favor of the lord, but a man wicked devices will be condemned” Proverbs12:1-2. Take time to pray, for prayer is the greatest power available to the individual in solving his personal problem. God does everything by prayer and nothing without it. Any genuine excuse for not praying is given by the devil. With prayer and diligence as a christian, you are unstoppable in
Accomplishing any task provided you are willing.
Finally, your education doesn’t really begin until you start to listen. ” the true art of memory is the art of attention” samuel joghnson. Be kind to others and generous in your assistance to them. When you uplifts the heart of others, you are prospered in many wonderful ways. The best portion of a good man’s life: his little nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love. I wish you happy stay in school.
