What is Autism?

 Autism is a term used for a number of progressive disorders called autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD is a neurobiological disorder that affects the permanent way a person perceives and interprets the world, particularly the social environment.  The symptoms of autism are variable and can range from mild to severe, but most children suffering from  Autism spectrum shown are

  • Significant problems developing nonverbal communication skills

  • Failure to establish friendships with children the same age.

  • Lack of interest in sharing enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people

  • Lack of empathy

  • Delay, learning to talk. As many as 40% of people with autism never speak.

  • Problems taking steps to start a conversation.

  • People with autism have difficulties continuing a conversation after it has begun.

  • People with autism often repeat over and over a phrase they have heard previously (echolalia)..

  • An unusual focus on pieces

  • Preoccupation with certain topics.

  • A need for sameness and routines

Causes of autism:

Most parents wonder if they have done something – or not do – could have caused their child’s autism?  Although it is possible to nail the cause of autism in some children, most parents never have a definitive answer to their question. Although a large number of rare genetic diseases and toxic hazards are known to cause autism (or autistic-like symptoms “that can be misdiagnosed as autism), most cases of autism are considered “idiopathic,”

Treatment of Autism

Proper treatment and early intervention of autism is important. Once diagnosed, parents, doctors and specialists should discuss what is best for the child. In most cases, parents are encouraged to care for the child at home. Special education programs are available to autistic children. Structured programs focused on disturbed behaviour to develop the level of patients have a promise. Most behavioural programs are:

• Clear instructions for the child

• Ask about specific behaviours to implement immediate

• Praise and rewards for performing those behaviours

 • A gradual increase in the complexity of 

Autism in Children

Many kids with autism have some psychological dysfunction. When tested, some areas of capability may be standard, while others may be mainly weak. For example, a child with autism may do well on the parts of the test that compute visual skills but receive low scores on the language portion.


One in four kids with autism will experience seizures, which often begin moreover in early childhood or they become teenagers. Seizures are caused by abnormal electrical movement in the brain, can make a temporary loss of realization (a “blackout”), a body seizure, unusual actions, or staring spells. Sometimes a factor can be deficient in of sleep or a high fever. An EEG (electroencephalogram — a video recording of the electric currents developed in the brain by way of electrodes useful to the scalp) can help verify the seizure’s being there.

Whatever the reason, children with Autism need special care and attention and most of all a lot of patience. If someone shows signs of autism one must get the person diagnosed by a qualified doctor.
