Red Riding Hood Review

The movie Red Riding Hood is a story about a beautiful young woman named Valarie (played by Amanda Seyfried) who is torn between two men. One being Peter (played by Shiloh Fernandez), a man who she’s in love with but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (played by Max Irons). Later Valarie’s older sister is killed by a werewolf. For years, the people offered the beast a monthly animal sacrifice, but under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge the people call on werewolf hunter Father Solomon (played by Gary Oldman) to help them kill the vicious wolf. But Solmon’s arrival brings consequences as he warns the people that the werewolf takes human form and could be any one of them!

At first I was unsure about the movie as I weren’t a fan of Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight movies, but after watching Red Riding Hood, I found it to be a very enjoyable fantasy for young adults, as it has something for everyone. Red Riding Hood has a good story, in my opinion a good looking scene for the movie, with all the mountains, the forest and the village, which I thought were all really nicely done.
We had the beautiful Amanda Seyfried playing the leading role of Valarie/Red Riding Hood who has had other great roles in other movies such as Sophie in the blockbuster Mamma Mia, Anita in Jennifer’s Body and Sophie in Letters to Juliet.
As for Shiloh Fernandez who plays Peter and Max Irons who plays Henry, they had great parts in the movie too, but their acting was okay, but not brilliant.
The werewolf I thought wasn’t bad either, it was made to look evil, powerful and cunning. With that said, there were some violent moments in the movie, but it’s much less brutal than the 1984’s Company of the Wolves.
My favourite role has to be Gary Oldman playing Father Solomon, who’s body and soul were once badly hurt by a werewolf, and now devotes his life to killing them and saving others. I like his character as he’s barking mad and definitely not the best of people but he is very clever, which is seen many times in this movie, as he helps the other people.
All the clues point to an obvious suspect for the werewolf but the plot is a lot darker and more twisted than what it seems, which made the story and the finish a lot better than I thought.

Please share your thoughts on the movie and I’ll be sure to review again soon!
