Even though ECS wasn’t present at this year’s Intel Developer Forum, this hasn’t stopped the company from showcasing their own motherboard solution for LGA-2011 processors based on the X79 Express PCH, which is known as the X79R-AX.
Mainboard ECS Black Series X79R-AX comes with ATX form factor is designed based on Intel X79 Express Chipset. ECS Black Series X79R-AX ready to be paired with an Intel Sandy Bridge-E, which adopted the LGA2011 socket. This mainboard offers next-generation platform features Intel HEDT (High-End Desktop).
The motherboard features the characteristic ECS look and it sport four DIMM slots that are placed around the LGA 2011 socket.
These work in a quad-channel mode and support DDR3 speeds of up to 2400MHz, depending on the number of DIMM sockets populated.
To the left of the memory sockets, ECS has placed four PCI Express x16 slots, which are driven by the 40 lane PCIe controller integrated inside Sandy Bridge-E processors.

Mainboard ECS Black Series X79R-AX supports NVIDIA SLI technology and AMD CrosFireX 4-way. In addition there are 14-phase VRM and seven sets of MOSFET Driver. CPU socket is connected with four DDR3 DIMM slots which support DDR3-2400 MHz maximum capacity of 32 GB. ECS Black X79R-AX Series delivers four PCI Express 3.0 expansion slots that can be configured as x16/NC/x16/NC or x8/x8/x8/x8 or x16/NC/x8/x8. Switching is handled by the chip ASMedia ASM1480. Besides, there are also 2 PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot.
ECS Black Series X79R-AX takes advantage of the Intel X79 PCH (Platform Controller Hub) that provides no less than 12 internal SATA ports and two eSATA ports. Not all ports connected to the PCH but there also are using the chip ASMedia. There are also six USB 3.0 ports, 8-channel HD audio with SPDIF TOSLINK outputs, two gigabit ethernet and bluetooth.
Heatsink CPU VRM heatsinks connected with PCH through pipe 6 mm and no visible LED displays as a thermometer as a marker of the amount that comes out of the coolant temperature. Clear-CMOS button located on the rear panel. Next to the CPU socket, there are two 4-pin (PWM) fan headers and three 3-pin fan headers. Mainboard ECS Black Series X79R-AX is likely to be present in the market simultaneously socket LGA2011 platform launch in mid November 2011.
