Conserving water is a top priority in many parts of the country. One drip or small leak can waste thousands of gallons daily. The following article provides some easy tips to help conserve water around your house. Remember, saving water is not only good for the environment, but it is also good for the wallet, as well.

Turn off the water while washing your hair, and turn it back on when you are ready to rinse it out.

Run each sprinkler zone for five minutes and repeat twice. There should be enough time for the water to soak into the ground. This will also eliminate the runoff of water into the streets.

Water your lawn and garden in the early morning hours when temperatures are cooler to minimize evaporation.

Wash your pets outdoors in an area of your lawn that needs water.

Replace your toilet flapper if it does not close after flushing.

Cut back on rinsing with newer dishwashers, as newer models clean more thoroughly than older ones.

Check outdoor faucets, sprinklers, and hoses for leaks.

Check your pool periodically for leaks, particularly if you have an automatic refilling device.

Designate one glass for your daily drinking water or refill a water bottle. This will cut down on the number of glasses to wash.

Monitor your water bill and water meter for unusually high use. This may indicate that there is a leak somewhere within the inside or outside of your home.
