Miss Venezuela, Ivian Sarcos, was crowned the 2011 winner of the Miss World beauty contest on Sunday at a shining ceremony in London final.
With a pink dress with diamond studs that there was a low-cost giant waterfall reduced below the waist, at 22 years old, opened his mouth and his hands to his face when he was declared the winner.
“I felt the most beautiful woman in the world. I was so happy and I wanted to cry, mourn, sit still and smile. So many emotions,” he told AFP.
“I’m very happy for this moment, for this opportunity and to win and I am very grateful to my life.”
Sarcos, who grew up in a nunnery orphaned after eight years, has a degree of human resources and works for a broadcasting company.
Last year, Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States, took his shiny crown and placed it on the head of his successor as Sarcos sat on a throne of shining silver.
Miss Philippines, Gwendoline Ruais, was named the second place, while Miss Puerto Rico, Amanda Perez, was third in the competition, which was back in his hometown to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
Some 113 beauty queens from Albania to Zimbabwe took his place on stage at Earls Court Two auditorium in west London, with the show will be broadcast live to an estimated audience of over one billion viewers in 150 countries.
About 50 feminists demonstrated outside, waving placards saying “objectification will not achieve world peace,” “Being a woman is not a competition” and “Sexism is pretty ugly.”
A handful were veterans of the famous protest of Miss World 1970 final, when stink bombs were thrown on stage during a noisy demonstration.
The thousands of fans inside – many dressed to the nines – cheered, waved flags and shouted for their favorites.
Several scoring rounds were conducted over the past two weeks, during the tour of the contestants from Britain, the results revealed on stage and 15 bypassing the semifinals.
While the beauty remains central to the event, the brain, skills and good causes also play a role. Most of this year have a degree level education and can speak at least three languages.
Miss Venezuela led the round of interviews, Miss Dominican Republic, Tejada Marianly Burgos, was named the sports champion, the local favorite Miss England, Alize Lily Mounter, won the beauty of beach, beachwear classic contest, while Miss Kazakhstan Zhumaliyeva Zhanna, was named top model.
The crowd played clips round talents – where artists sang, danced and gave piano recitals – won by Miss Chile, Gabriela Thumb Luco.
Miss Ghana, Karikari Stephanie, and Miss Indonesia, Astrid Yunadi were the joint winners of beauty with an object category, where contestants include a charity project.
With the results collated, Miss Puerto Rico tops the league table, ahead of Miss Venezuela, Miss Philippines, Miss Ukraine and Miss Scotland.
The last seven – chosen by the judges, including nine former Miss Worlds – were Miss England, Miss Korea, Miss Philippines, Miss Puerto Rico, Scotland, Miss, Miss South Africa and Miss Venezuela.
Just before the winner was announced, a message of support from former South African President Nelson Mandela was read on stage by one of his grandchildren, supporting their work to “train young people to serve their communities.”
Competition charity program, created 40 years ago, has raised $ 800 million (580 million) to date.
Sarcos victory means that Venezuela now heads the league table of all time alone with six titles, pulling clear of India and the United Kingdom.
“Winning means everything to me and I hope to take advantage of being a winner in a productive way,” said Miss World 61.
“I primarily want to help people in need.
“I would like to help people like me. I am an orphan. I also like older teens to help with problems. As many people as I can.”
The competition was first held for the 1951 Festival of Britain and was represented in London until 1989.
Former contestants include Oscar-winning U.S. Actress Halle Berry, one of the finalists in 1986, and 1994 winner Aishwarya Rai, star of Indian cinema.
It was announced that the Miss World final go directly to China in 2012, this time in Ordos in Inner Mongolia.
