1. Be aware of different eye diseases and have a regular eye exam .The most serious problems affecting vision caused by eye diseases such as macular degeneration related to age, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and cataracts , this one is not a disease in itself but its treatment is surgical.
The hardening of the arteries of the eye  decreases the oxygen and nutrients, which damages the central retina. Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve that transmits visual information from eye to brain. Since the loss of vision is not apparent until a large part of the optic nerve is damaged, half of the people who have glaucoma do not know it before it’s too late.

Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes. In this disease, the blood vessels of the retina become blocked and damaged. About half of diabetics suffer in varying degrees of this condition visually.

Cataract is the opacity of the lens and a major cause of low vision. This is not a disease but its treatment is surgical.

Because early detection and treatment of these diseases can make the difference between seeing and never seeing or not seeing, taking a regular eye exam should be part of your routine. An optometrist can detect problems before a significant change of vision is apparent.

2. Wear sunglasses

Everyone knows that we must  protect our skin with sunscreen, but many people forget  their eyes need protection too. You should do not even look directly at the sun  to suffer the damage. The ultra violet or UV light can be reflected by the snow, sand, asphalt or water.

UV rays can increase your risk of developing cataracts or macular degeneration, and may even cause a “sunburn” of the cornea, called photokeratitis. This condition can lead to temporary blindness.

Wear sunglasses when you’re outside and make it a habit but do not think that all the tinted glasses are of good quality and offer good protection. It is essential that protection is 100%.
