The Hyundai Coupe, or called in parts of the World, the Hyundai Tiburon, or Tuscani, the all new Veloster is the replacement for it, which will finally end the rumor of the recent Genesis Coupe of being the replacement. The new Veloster was first unveiled back in January at the Detroit Auto Show, and has just entered production as a 2012 year model.
The Velostar is one of those types of cars that has both a 2-door and a 4-door layout, since calling it a 3-door, you’d probably think it’s a hatchback, but it’s a coupe with an extra door behind the passenger door, such common examples of other cars that have this layout are the Mazda RX-8, Mini Clubman, and the Saturn Ion 3.
The Velostar began life as a Concept, was first shown to the public back at the 2007 Seoul Motor Show, and the difference from the concept and the production model are that, the third door was added behind the passenger door, as the concept was a 2–door coupe, and had a glass roof, which was later modified to be smaller, with the front half piece gained the ability to slide open, like a sunroof. The concept was built on a shared chassis with both the Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Elantra.
Some of the major features of the new Velostar is that it comes with tons of technology, all bundled together on a nifty 7 inch touch-screen display on the center console, that comes with Internet radio capability by Pandora, Gracenote display technology with voice recognition, Virtual CD downloading, Video playback via USB port, Video game console connectivity, including a 115-volt power outlet, Bluetooth, and Blue Link tools.
Other features, such as the engine, the new 1.6L GDI Gamma I4, that comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, which overall, giving the car up to 40 mpg. Also, the Velostar comes with 18 inch alloy rims, and a brilliant looking dual exhaust that is centered at the back of the car.
No offcial information has been released about pricing, but rumor has it that it’s to be in the $17,000 USD range, or a bit less for base models, as information about other trim levels has also not be officially shared yet.
