J&K, July 6th 2011:- Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson & Managing Director, The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group hosted a press conference todayat The Lalit Grand Palace Srinagar, to announce the centennial anniversary of The Grand Palace. Earlier known as Gulab Bhawan, the historical palace is a landmark of Srinagar which was bought by The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group in the year 1998.
While addressing the press conference, Dr. Suri highlighted the historical significance of The Lalit Grand Palace and how The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group has been successfully running and operating The Lalit Grand Palace Srinagar from the past 13 years. The Group had bought this palace in 1998 at a time when militancy was at its peak and many residents were vacating the valley. The Palace was abandoned for a decade & was in a completely dilapidated condition, when the Group invested substantially to restore the beauty of the Palace and over the years has been operating it even when conditions have been most difficult. Till date, hotel has not been shut even for a single day irrespective of the conditions that prevailed in the valley.
“It’s our emotional commitment towards the people of this beautiful region that has made us invest in this valley. The Group ethos of developing destinations & not just the hotels is bought alive by the people and the environment of the region which account for the success of The Lalit properties. The Lalit has been a pioneer in creating unique events in the destinations it operates in”, she further added.
The carnival was started last month to celebrate the 100-years of the Palace. There was full house occupancy at the property & a special food festival was organized by bringing in the key chefs from different properties to the beautiful The Lalit Grand Palace Srinagar. Continuing the efforts to promote tourism not just in Srinagar but in the state of J&K, the Group is back with the third season of The Lalit Suri Polo at the Viswanathan Stadium in Drass on July 8th & 9th 2011 and will be organizing The Lalit Suri Golf Tournament for the caddies in Srinagar on July 7th , 2011.
The Group is committed to the game of Polo and this match is a step in the right direction to promote the untapped region of Drass and to promote tourism in the valley. Earlier, the valley’s lofty mountains and the solo polo ground at Drass had witnessed heavy pounding, but now with efforts of The Lalit, the sounds of polo shots reverberate in the mountain. With such initiatives, The Group hopes tobring back Kashmir’s former grandeur and revive its beauty and rich heritage that makes it a must see destination.
