Congress General Secretary  Rahul Gandhi on Monday today met a 14-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh, undergoing treatment at the AIIMS in New Delhi after being stabbed in both the eyes allegedly by two youths when she resisted a rape attempt.  He inquired about her condition from doctors.

The victim is a Dalit girl just 14 years old. She is a resident of Gursahaiganj village in Kannauj district, about 180 km from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

The two boys, both high school students, stalked her near a field on June 19.  They attempted to rape her.  When she resisted the desperados attacked her with knives and blinded her by piercing both of her eyes.  Her cries brought the villagers to the scene and she was taken to hospital.

The doctors at the district hospital declared that she might never get her eyesight back.  As a result she was shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi for specialist treatment.

Rahul Gandhi reached the Rajendra Prasad Eye Centre at the AIIMS at 10.45 am and spoke to the girl and her parents for some time.  He motivated the girl and wished her early recovery.

Rahul Gandhi also spoke to the doctors about the treatment being given to the minor girl.

The doctor who operated the girl informed Rahul Gandhi that the girl’s left eye was completely damaged. The inner parts of the eye are severely damaged. The cornea is badly damaged, may not come back to its normal condition.  However, the doctors said 80 to 90 percent recovery was possible in the other eye for which she was operated upon.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to see the victim girl comes in the wake of unprecedented increase of rape, murder and law and order cases being daily taking place all over Uttar Pradesh. The law and order does not exist in the BSP ruled Uttar Pradesh any more.

Recently in Lakhimpur a minor girl was raped and murdered inside the police station and her body was hanged from a tree to give an appearance that she had committed suicide.

Last week Dy CMO (Family Welfare) Y S Sachan, the prime accused in CMO (Family Welfare) B.P. Singh’s murder, was found dead in mysterious circumstances inside a Lucknow district jail.  While the Post Mortem report mentioned a number of injuries on body of the deceased, the state government described it a suicide and ruled out murder.

The Congress as also other opposition parties are demanding resignation of Mayawati on moral grounds but she does not seems to respect public sentiments echoed by the opposition parties.

Mayawati government is so much anti-democratic that it did not allow UP State Congress unit to exercise It’s democratic right to hold a peaceful march.    Congress party’s permission to take out Nayaya march in Lucknow today was denied by the state administration on the ground of possibility of breach of peace.

Such is the state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh that  government very much thinks of the possibility of breach of peace but do not care about rapes, murders and extortions etc already taking place there.
