In the wee hours of May 2nd 2011, a team of US Navy SEALS attacked a compound in Abbotabad in Pakistan. Its mission: To kill Osama Bin Laden. Osama Bin Laden was the founder and chief of Al-Qaeda and he was the one responsible for so many attacks on various US interests all over the world.

He was responsible for the attacks on the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar-Es-Salaam, he was responsible for the attack on USS Cole in Yemen, he was responsible for the attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York in 1993 and he is also responsible for one of the most horrifying terrorist attacks in history of mankind, the September 11 attacks.

For almost 10 years, every intelligence agency searched high and low for this man. America went to war with the Taliban to kill Osama Bin Laden. They overthrew the Taliban rule in Afghanistan in an operation called Operation Enduring Freedom. They fired wherever they thought there was Osama. They did not find their man.

All this while, Bin Laden was hiding in a very safe location in Pakistan.

There was a lot of speculation that Osama was in Pakistan. People thought he was hiding somewhere in the lawless tribal areas of Waziristan. That proved to be false.

He was hiding in a city just 30 miles north of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. The city of Abbotabad is densely populated.

Abbotabad has Pakistani military installations and it has a military training academy near it. Reports have come in stating that the compound was built specifically for Bin Laden to hide in. He has been hiding there for 5 years.

No man, however secretive one is, can live in such isolation that nobody knows about it. Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI is a pretty competent organization by itself. They would have found out sooner or later. But the truth is that Pakistan knew it all along. In fact, it is more likely that Bin Laden was their guest.

The ISI has been known to shelter prominent terrorists and provide them with aid morally, militarily and financially. It dates back to the time when ISI used to provide training to the Mujahideen to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. The Americans supplied weapons to the Mujahideen through the ISI. That is where Bin Laden andISI made contact.

Can you imagine that the world’s biggest terrorist was hiding just 30 miles away from the country’s capital?

Pakistan has always supported terror against the world. 90% of the world’s terrorist attacks has been tracked to Pakistan. There has always been some link traced back to Pakistan in every terrorist attack. And now, the world’s biggest terrorist was hiding in Pakistan. Now the world knows, who is the real terrorist.

The War on terror can make progress only if it stops identifying Pakistan as a frontline state against terror. That is nonsense. Pakistan is where terrorism is produced on a massive scale. The war should not be in Afghanistan or Iraq but in Pakistan, where it really matters.

To begin with, the US should stop any and all aid to Pakistan at once. When money is in their hands, they will misuse it. They don’t use military aid to fight terrorism, they use it to bolster their defence against India. They pay terrorists from that aid to destabilize India and other countries.

Pakistan should be declared as a terrorist state at once. Its nuclear weapon capacity needs to be stripped off as soon as possible and it needs to be demilitarized.

Osama Bin Laden’s death shows the world what kind of a terrorist state Pakistan is.
