Consider a Scenic or Historic Trail

Follow the pink line in the middle of the street, to view the Mobile Azalea Trail.  Enjoy the beautiful flowers that line the streets of Mobile.  The trail was started in 1929 to encourage townspeople to plant azaleas to beautify the city.

If you are a history buff traveling to the city of Mobile, consider driving The Mobile Bay Civil War Trail, which covers 90 miles of historic sites in and around the city.

View the historic sites of the African American Heritage Trail, which includes 32 markers in Mobile alone.

Festivals of Mobile

Plan your next trip to Mobile around one of the great festivals of the city, which include: the Alabama Pecan Festival, the Alabama Sports Festival, the Festival of Flowers, Mardi Gras Family Fun Days, and the Mobile Jazz Festival, just to name a few.  Most of the festivals include free live entertainment and art attractions for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Museums Offering Free Admission

Forte Conde was built between 1734 and 1735, and rebuilt for our Nation’s Bicentennial celebration in 1776.  The fort originally headquarted the French Colony in Mobile.  Visit the fort to see guides in costumes, fort tours and firing of replica French firearms.

Visit the Mobile City Hall to see murals of the city’s history, in the lobby of the building, which was built in 1857.

Also free to see in Mobile are the Carlen House Museum, the City of Mobile Museum, the Eastern Shore Art Center and the National African American Multicultural Center.

Worth the Price

The following museums offer admission $7 or less and are well worth the price:  The Bragg Mitchell Mansion, the Mobile Carnival Museum, the Conde Charlotte Museum and the Oakleigh Mansion.  If you decide to visit the Oakleigh Mansion, consider taking the Oakleigh Garden District Walking Tour to enjoy the historic antebellum style homes.

Before you plan the date of your vacation, sign up for several travel web sites.  Go to their site and search for a hotel for the dates you would like to visit the city of Mobile.  Once you have done a search, you will continue to receive emails from the site with hotel deals for that city in particular.  Some hotel web sites also have a calendar where you can view the best rates available.
