A charity organisation is a type of Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) whose agenda is doing good and philanthropic works and be a social benefactor. The only difference between a charity organisation and other NPOs is their agenda. A charity organisation is inclined towards educational and religious activities with main focus being social upliftment.

Different countries have different definitions for charity organisations, main agenda being the same. For example, Canadian government says a charity organisation must work for the benefit of society and no fund of the organisation must be employed for the personal benefit of any of its members. A charity organisation must register itself with the government. However, in England and Wales, not all charity organisations need to register, and are voluntary organisations which work for the society. They should not deviate from the charity purposes published by the UK government under The Charities Act, 2006. United States has different laws for charity organisations. United States distinguish various charity organisations on the basis of their purpose of public interest.

Different countries have different tax policies for different charity organisations. Generally governments exempt most of the taxes from these social benefactors. Countries like England and Wales have certain rules deciding the taxation of these charity organisations. These include reliefs and exemptions in relation to income tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, stamp duty land tax and value added tax.

Charity organisations conduct various workshops on education and family management. They go to the poor and teach them, give them food and clothes. They go and spread positive message all over. Charity organisations in coalition with government launch different schemes for the welfare of the people.
