If you are a diabetic or are you dieting and watching your weight but need just that little bit of sweetness to get you through the day? Sugar-free chocolate dipped strawberries will do just that. I have fresh strawberries in my patch and I am trying to use them anyway I can. I hope you enjoy my recipe for sugar-free chocolate dipped strawberries.
- Fresh Strawberries
- Paper towel
- 1-6 oz package Hershey’s sugar-free chocolate chips
- 1 tbsp shortening, as per chocolate package
- Wax paper
Skewer to dip strawberry with
- Pick strawberries hopefully from your own strawberry patch so you know they are organic. However, if you have to purchase them from the stores, at least try to buy ones that not sprayed with chemicals.
- Wash the berries good, even our organic ones have sand and dirt on them and are washed well in cold water.
- Lay the washed berries on a paper towel to remove the excess water. Let them dry completely as the water ruins with the consistency of the chocolate.
- Find something to put into the center of the strawberry so you can dip it. I found that the strawberries that still had the stem on and the skewer were the easiest ones to dip in the sugar-free Hershey’s chocolate.
- Melt the sugar-free chocolate; you can melt in the microwave or on the stovetop.
- Dip your strawberry in the sugar-free chocolate and swirl it around to make sure it is covered.
- Shake the excess chocolate off the strawberry and put them on wax paper to set up.

Tips and Warnings:
- Now that you have dipped the strawberries in the chocolate, let them set up, kick back and enjoy them. I really loved them.
- You might have to thin the chocolate chips. Use solid shortening.
- Heat your chocolate on a low setting. Do not over heat the chocolate; it will dry out instead of melting.
- Maltitol, the sugar alcohol that makes the sugar-free chocolate chips sweet comes with a warning label, the Hershey’s package reads, “individuals sensitive to sugar substitutes may experience a laxative effect. Maltitol, a sugar substitute, is a slowly metabolizedcarbohydrate that generally causes only a small rise in bloodglucose level.”
