Bible Lesson Number Seven for Toddlers and Small Children-Mary The Mother of Jesus

This is the start of a 52 part series of Bible Lessons for toddlers and small children. These lessons are meant to be used in your own home. My family and I will be using Monday as our Bible lesson day. It is very important to teach your own children about God and your children. God put it upon my heart to do this for my children, to teach them about Him.

Things you will need

• Start off the lesson with a prayer-Throughout this series we will use the Children’s Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord my soul to keep

If I die before I wake

I pray thee Lord my soul to take

The Children’s prayer is the perfect prayer to teach your children when they are toddlers. It is easy to remember your children can say it before they go to sleep each night and it teaches your children to pray to God

Mary, The Mother of Jesus

Mary Visits Elizabeth-Luke 1:39-56

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Mary’s Song

 46 And Mary said:

   “My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
   holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
   from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
   remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home

The Virgin Mary was the mother of Jesus, who is the savior of the world. Mary is the best example of a mother we have in the Bible. The Holy Spirit (explain to your children who the Holy Spirit is) came to Mary and told her she was going to become pregnant with Jesus. Mary accepted this, was a good mother to Jesus and sets a good examples to women of the world about how best to be a mother under all circumstances. Mary also teaches us how it is important for us to respect our mothers because of all the sacrifices they had to go through to take care of you. We respect our moms on Mother’s Day and throughout the year because we love them and we have a special bond with them.

Imagine this, not only was Jesus Mary’s son, he was her savior too (explain to your children what Savior means as long as you believe they are ready)

• This is the activity part of your lesson. There are two activities for this lesson- (20-30 minutes)

Why Do You Love Your Mom? Make a card for mom and tell her how much you love her

If possible, bring a dozen carnations to class and give each a child a flower to give to their mom, just because

If this is your home, buy flowers for mom with your children and give them to her

Take mom out somewhere special

Learn a Song-teach and sing this song with your children

God Is So Good

God is so good God is so good

God is so good He’s so good to me.

He cares for me He cares for me

He cares for me He’s so good to me

He loves me so, He loves me so,

He loves me so, He’s so good to me

He answers prayer, He answers prayer,

He answers prayer, He’s so good to me

God, you’re so good, God you’re so good

God, you’re so good: You’re so good to me

You’re so good to me

God is so good, God is so good

God is so good, He’s so good to me

End your lesson with the Lord’s Prayer- (10 minutes) if this is the first time your children say the Lord’s prayer, it may take ten minutes to teach them, otherwise two minutes is enough time to recite the Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:9-13)

The lesson is complete for this week. These lessons are made to take up about one hour of your time. It is worth one hour of your time each week to teach your children about God. Your small children can also use an hour away from television, video games and playing to learn about God. These lessons can be used for parents of children 4-10 and in Sunday school. These lessons are made for my small children in a home atmosphere. These Bible lessons are made to help teach children about God and help families grow closer together. You have my permission to use any of these Bible lessons, but not to publish them.

When the 52 Bible lessons are done, they will be put together with my children’s art and made into a book. God Bless all the people and families who read these lessons. Lesson Number one was God Created the Heaven’s and the Earth. Lesson Number two was Noah’s Ark and Lesson Number three is Joseph and His Beautiful Colorful Coat. This week we learned that David got his skill and strength from God and this allowed him to slay the giant Goliath and how to honor your father and your mother and the Mary the mother of Jesus-

Suggestive Reading for parents or Sunday School Teacher-Matthew 1, Luke 1 and 2,

I personally will teach my children about Mary (even though I am a Catholic and Christian) I will not teach my children to pray to or through Mary-many religions have their own beliefs about Mary, but I only teach my children what the Bible says, not what our church wants them to do believe-I follow Jesus-What you do, is your choice when it comes to teaching your children about Mary the mother of Jesus
