Star Pizza is a neighborhood pizza place founded over 30 years ago and restaurant located in a two story house looking building which makes the place very laid back and feel like you are home with friends or a big happy artsy family, and they have different area and the upstairs is great to go watch sports games eating pizza and drinking beer.
The décor of the place is very unique and it does not have any rhyme or reason to it, but it seems to fit well with the place and the Montrose area close to the 59 freeway at 2111 Norfolk a side street of Shepard and the hours of operations are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The great thing about Star Pizza is that they also offer other items such as main entrées, salads, appetizers and sandwiches. For their appetizers you can go with the Caprese salad which is tomatoes and mozzarella with basil and served with French bread for $5.95 or some baked goat cheese or roasted garlic for $6.50. while for their salads go with the antipasto salad which includes lettuce, Roma tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, green peppers, black olives, cheese, pepperoni and anchovies for $7.50, or a small Chelsea salad which has mixed lettuce, gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and sun dried tomatoes for $6.75.
However their main features are the pizza, and the only downside to them is that you have to give at least some time like ten or fifteen minutes for the preparation but they are worth the wait. The most popular ones are Joe’s pizza which has sautéed spinach and fresh garlic a medium 14 inch comes at $14.50, the salsa verde which comes with spicy tomatillo and roasted pobland, fried garlic and feta cheese and the starburst which has ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and green peppers a 12 inch is $11.75 for New York style or you can pay a few dollars more and go deep dish Chicago style.
The prices of Star Pizza are really good and affordable for the portions that you get and the pizza and sandwiches are the best items on the menu, therefore the prices get an A, while the food gets a solid B, the pizzas are good but the pastas have a little too much sauce on them.
