Biguerlai Side effects

Marketed as a weight loss product, biguerlai tea originates from the Philippines and is easily available online.  Biguerlai tea doesn’t have any dedicated site selling their product and thus the manufacturers’ of biguerlai tea are not known.

Senna is the active ingredient present in each tea bag, it contains 75 Gm Senna fruit and 25 Gm senna leaves. The present of Senna fruits and leaves makes Biguerlai tea vulnerable to many side effects.

Side effects of Biguerlai tea

Gastrointestinal side effects

Abdominal cramps. Stomach ache, diarrhea, constipation, nausea and vomiting are the possible gastrointestinal side effects. Senna is an approved laxative for treating constipation, by Germany’s Commission E, a regulatory body for herbs.  In case you experience black or brown stool, severe abdominal pain or other bothersome side effects after the administration of Biguerlai tea, stop using it immediately and consult a doctor.

Dermatologic Side effects

There have been reports of patients suffering from allergic reaction. These allergic symptoms includes hives, rashes, swelling of face, lips, tongue and the throat, trouble in breathing and a heavy chest. On occurrence of any of these side effects consult a doctor.

Other serious side effects

Other serious side effects reported in patients after the administration of Biguerlai tea includes change in heartbeat.

 Administration of Biguerlai tea along with other drugs (blood pressure, diabetes drugs) increases the chances of irregular heartbeat and it can worsen the existing heart disease by causing an imbalance of the electrolyte in your body. The laxative properties of Senna can cause dehydration and electrolyte depletion, especially when administered with other laxatives.

Using Biguerlai tea with calcium blocker drugs like Bepridil can increase the risk of hypokalemnia (low blood potassium levels).

Prolonged use of Biguerlai tea can cause serious kidney damage (rare reports).

Administration of Biguerlai tea (Senna) along with birth control pills can reduce you blood level of Estrogen which comprises formulation that includes estradiol and estrogens.
