Crysis 2 Xbox 360 Review

Crysis 2 is the first Crysis game to hit the consoles. The original Crysis was groundbreaking in the graphics department, so the standard was set very high for the sequel. Crysis 2 does not fail to deliver in that aspect. It is easily one of the best, if not the best, looking games on the Xbox 360. The environment is beautifully colored and everything seems to pop out at you. The protagonist has an extremely powerful armor suit on called the “nano-suit,” which enhances his strength and speed and allows him to blend into the environment. However, the suit has a limited energy supply, which recharges after a short time of not using any energy, so managing your energy is key. The animations in the game look great, although the same two stealth kill animations and the delayed reload animation detract from the experience. The gunplay is fun and the ability to accessorize your weapon with silencers, sights, and many other things is really fun and makes you feel even more in control of the character. The ability to customize your armor abilities adds to the experience even more. The game takes place in a future New York that is being attacked by aliens and has been ravaged by a deadly virus. The single player campaign lasts about 8 hours, but after you’ve beaten it, there isn’t much point in going at it again except to try to get all the collectibles strewn across the game. The multiplayer modes are fairly straight forward, but instead of a Domination-like gametype, there’s “Crash Site” which has players battling to keep control of the alien pods being periodically dropped by an alien ship overhead. The game is similar to Call of Duty in some ways, the ability to make classes with different weapon setups and perk-like armor enhancements, but the core gameplay is very different due to the armor abilities each player has. I felt like the multiplayer was rushed; there aren’t very many maps, weapons, or armor enhancements, and it takes forever to rank up. Overall, Crysis 2 is a very fun experience with some rough edges that hopefully get ironed out in a sequel.
