Have you been going through challenges in your life and it seems like you are surrounded by enemies everywhere? If this writer’s life is a testament of the many challenges the people of Yahweh (God) are going through, then there are many wars being fought in different fronts.
It seems like our minds are being bombarded with different wars based on our needs and standing with Yahweh. The wars could be in your relationships, your finances, your heath, your children and maybe even your faith.
Scriptures teaches that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” Ephesians 6: 12.
As believers we face a powerful army led by Satan whose goal is to defeat the church and frustrate Yahweh’s children. The enemy uses different devices to frustrate our efforts or to weaken us in our stance. He may threaten you with something that causes you to fear and in the process loose your focus.
What do we do then?
Jehoshaphat faced such a challenge while he was the king of Judah. “It happened after this that the people of Ammon and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshapat.—. And Jehoshapat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout Judah. So that Judah gathered together to ask for help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord” 2 Chronicles 20: 1,3-4.
Notice that before doing anything, Jeshoshapat first sought Yahweh and called on his people to fast and pray. Many times when we are bombarded with trials we are tempted to take action on our own without consulting with the Lord. Recognize that you cannot go to war against an enemy without understanding all the issues otherwise you will be defeated.
Paul calls on the believer “ to put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.— therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” Ephesians 6: 11, 13. In other words we must depend on Yahweh’s strength through the Holy Spirit to fight these battles.
The armor of Yahweh is made up of “truth, “righteousness”, “gospel of peace”, “shield of faith”, “helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit , which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” Ephesians 6: 14-18.
Jeshoshaphat and his people were standing in prayers in the Spirit waiting for God’s intervention when “the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, — a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. And he said, “ — Thus say the Lord to you: Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude for the battle is not yours, but Yahweh’s (God’s). —You will not need to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you , O Judah and Jerusalem!” 2 Chronicles 20: 14, 15, 17.
Although Jehoshopaht had feared after he heard the news of the threat, Yahweh assured him through the Holy Spirit that this was not his war but Yahweh’s. The Christian believer has the Holy Spirit in dwelling in them and the Holy Spirit “also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” Romans 8: 26.
So before doing anything, pray and let the Holy Spirit guide you just like he did with Jehoshaphat and His people. When we ask Yahweh for help He will fight our battles for us and He always triumphs.
How Do we let Yahweh Fight for us?
We must first realize that the battle is not ours but Yahweh’s. Secondly, we must recognize our human limitations and in the process allow Yahweh to work through our fears and weaknesses. Thirdly, we musy make sure that we are pursing Yahweh’s interests and not our own agenda. Lastly we must involve Yahweh in our daily battles and ask him for His help.
In fact Jehoshaphat before the war reminded the children of Judah and Israel “to believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe in His prophets, and you shall prosper” 2 Chronicles 20: 20. He was making sure that their focus was in the right place and was based on the word of Yahweh.
