There are many people out there suffering from depression because the lack certain nutrients in their diet. When nutrients such as B vitamins and omega fatty acids are missing from out diet our mental health takes a turn for the worst and we are unable to think clearly, make right decisions, and handle stress or even focus properly. Without the right nutrients we would be a complete emotional ball of sadness all the time and that is why it is important to make sure your depression is caused by a poor diet.

One of the best foods to eat for fighting off depression if fish.  Fish contains high amounts of natural omega fatty acids. Our bodies need omega fatty acids to help our cell membranes carry a chemical called serotonin to our brains to help keep us happy and stress free. It also helps keep our minds focused and able to deal with stress better when it is present. Some of the best types of fish to eat for getting a rich natural source of healthy omega fatty acids would be salmon, tuna, mackerel, haddock, cod, and sardines. All these types of fish are best to get at your local fish market and if the fish smelly fishy they are bad.

Some other excellent foods to eat for treating and keeping depression away are beans. Beans contain loads of B vitamins and we all should know B vitamins are what keep our brains focused, thinking clearly, stress free, and emotionally connected to the world in a positive way. Some of the different types of beans you can eat to keep depression away are green beans, red beans, kidney beans, soy beans, black beans, and yellow string beans. Heck if you make a bean salad you will have one amazing natural treatment for your depression.

Other great foods to consider adding to your diet are those yellow, red, and orange fruits and vegetables that contain high amounts of B vitamins in them to help treat and prevent depression. Some of those fruits and veggies are squashes, peaches, carrots, orange and red peppers, mangos, bananas, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, strawberries, and watermelon. Not only to these fruits and veggies help keep our brains for thinking negatively and being depression, but they also help us feel fuller longer because they contain fiber while maintaining our blood sugar levels. If our blood sugar levels are all over the place so won’t our mood.

Some other great sources of omega 3 fatty acids are seeds and nuts. Seeds and nuts help with depression as well because the omega fatty acids help transport that chemical we talked about early serotonin to our brains faster so we can have positive thoughts and think with ease. Some different types of seeds and nuts to eat to help with your depression would be sunflower seeds, walnuts, pumpkins seeds, peanuts, cashews, pecans, almonds, sesame seeds, and flax seeds. Heck, you could even take a couple spoonfuls of organic peanut butter and get a great health natural dose of those omega 3 fatty acids each day to help keep that serotonin chemical flowing freely.

See without certain types of foods in your diet you wouldn’t be getting your B vitamins or omega fatty acids which mean your brain will literally go nutty and cause you to be depressed. If you don’t already have some of these foods in your diet and you are suffering from depression try getting some of the nutrient rich foods above containing B vitamins and omega fatty acids into your diet. Who knows maybe you will feel a whole lot better after eating these foods. Maybe it won’t get rid of your depression completely, but maybe it will at least help mellow it out a bit.
