Recently I was asked by a friend if there were any alternative treatments she could use to help reduce her gout, and I simply said yes. This also got me thinking I am sure there are others of you out there thinking about the same thing, and I thought I would share with all of you who are suffering from gout a few alternative treatments I know about to help reduce and ease your gout.
Now for those of you who do not know what gout is and is looking into alternative treatment for a loved one it is basically a server form of arthritis. Gout is basically an attack on your body when certain joints in the body become swollen, red, hot and very tender to the touch. Gout attacks can last from 24 hours to a week. Gout cause a joint, or joints in your hands, fingers, toes, knees, ankles, elbows, and wrist to swell up almost double in size. Gout is caused by high blood pressure, poor diet, lack of exercise, dehydration, alcohol, and weakened immune system.
There are many conventional ways out there to help treat gout such as steroids, but using steriods can have negative effects on the body such as addiction, nauseas, dizziness, heart attack, stroke, and sometimes even weaken immune systems. I personally think conventional medicine makes gout worse and believe there are other alternatives treatments out there to reduce gout attacks, and making living with gout a little bit easier.
Some of the alternative treatments I know of are eating cherries, fish oils, nuts, olive and flaxseed oils, and by drinking plenty of water, and taking vitamin C and herbal supplements such as grape seed extracts and spices such as ginger and turmeric. The reason these alternative treatments work is because they all help decrease inflammation within the body, and keep the joints well lubricated so they do not become irritated, red, painful, hot and swollen.
The reason why cherries are an alternative treatment for gout is because red ripened sweet cherries contain a chemical in them called flavorings which help decrease the amount of uric acid in the bodies bloodstream. By having way to much uric acid in the bodies bloodstream it can cause the uric acid to crystallize and cause the joints inside the body to swell up like a balloon. Cherries also contain vitamin C which also helps reduce inflammation in the joints and keeps bones and tissues inside the body strong and healthy. Cherries also contain antioxidants in them that help keep your immune system nice and strong so it can help prevent further gout attacks on the body. However, you would have to eat several cups of cherries a day, or drink a lot of cherry juice.
The reason why fish, olive, grape and flax seed oils help treat gout alternatively is because they contain omega 3 fatty acids in them that help decrease inflammation in the bodies joints and tissues and keeps them strong and healthy reduces your chances off having a gout attack. The ways you can get omega 3 fatty acids into your body is by taking omega fatty acid supplements, eating fish, taking fish oil, omega fatty acid, and grape seed supplements, eating nuts and seeds, and using olive, flaxseed, and sunflower seed oils. If you do not like eating fish, nuts, seeds, and oils you can simply just taken the supplements and you will get all your body needs from them, but I personally think the best source of omega fatty acids come right from the food itself.
The reason why vitamin C is a helpful alternative treatment for gout is because vitamin C is what helps keep your bones, tissues, and muscles strong and healthy. Vitamin C is what is used when your bones, tissues, and muscles are torn and broken to help repair them. Vitamin C is what also helps keep your immune system strong and fighting off infections, diseases, and cancer cells. Vitamin C is simply the easiest alternative gout treatment out there because vitamin C is in fruit juices, fruits, berries, veggies, vitamins, and vitamin C supplements, and herbal supplements such as Rosehip. Now I am sure everyone of you who has gout can do this alternative gout treatment every day to help prevent and reduce the amount of gout attacks you have.
The reason why spices such as ginger and turmeric are great alternative treatment for gout is because they help reduce inflammation and contain compounds in them that help relieve pain in swollen joints and tissues. The best and easiest way to get ginger and turmeric into your diet to help reduce your gout attacks and to help treat your gout attacks is by using it in your cooking. If you can’t use ginger and turmeric in your cooking they do make ginger and turmeric herbal teas and supplements that you can take instead.
Last but not least is water. Water is an excellent alternative treatment for gout because it keeps your joints, bones, tissues, and muscles, hydrated and very well lubricated so they are not becoming swollen, irritated, and sore. Water also helps keep the bloodstream clean by washing out extra uric acid from the bloodstream. Water even helps keep the immune system and body strong simply because it is able to flush out toxins from the body meaning your body can help prevent and treat gout attacks more effectively. If you can drink as much water as you can throughout your day, and if you do not like plain water add a lemon to it, or drink tons of herbal teas so your body can stay well hydrated and flushes so your blood stream doesn’t have a uric acid overload causing server gout attacks.
