Outdoor furniture is any furniture that is meant to be used outside like in a garden or sometimes in a yard. When you go out to buy any outdoor furniture, the most important factor to keep in mind is the quality of the material that is used to manufacture the furniture. The material should be able to withstand all kinds of weather that it is exposed to. You should choose a material that does not easily rust, corrode, discolor or get pitted.
No matter how good the material used to make your outdoor furniture is, you should regularly maintain it to make sure that it lasts longer and retains its color. Outdoor furniture needs regular washing to stay in a better condition. How many times you have to wash outdoor furniture depends on the material the furniture is made from, its capability of collecting debris within a particular period and the effects of sun on the material.
If your outdoor furniture is made from rosewood (the most commonly used wood for outdoor furniture) it will turn gray as time passes as a result of exposure to the atmosphere. If you don’t take care of your furniture, it will turn dull that’s why you have to wash it thoroughly regularly, making sure that you removed all dust. If there are any loosened up fasteners, you should make sure that you have tightened or replaced them. You have to use a sandpaper to smoothen your furniture, you can wipe out with cloth and paint thinner if any sawdust is found on the furniture.
If you have wicker furniture, you have to use a vacuum to get out the dirt from the furniture. Afterwards you should wash the furniture with warm water and soap. Even if outdoor furniture made from wicker can withstand most of the harsh weather, its surface can fade or dry away if it is exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, that’s why its cleaning has to be regular.
If your outdoor furniture is made from wrought-iron, you should rub it with steel wool to keep away the effect of rust. You should also clean the surface with a rust-resistant primer and paint the surface with metal paint.
If you have aluminum outdoor furniture, you have to remove the pockmarked areas with steel wool and rub it with elbow grease.
Some people prefer washing outdoor furniture under pressure, however hand washing and then pressure washing is the best option.
