Today, 30th April, is World Thai Chi Day. It is a day to breathe together. It is an ideal day to think together to make the world a place to live a better life. On this Saturday, April 30th, at 10 am, tens of thousands in hundreds of cities, in over 70 nations come together, to breathe together, and to provide the world a healing image of our planet and our people. No more a world of divisions; no more a world of violence; and no more a world of selfish politics.  The air the world breathes is one. Just one!

Tai Chi the yoga in motion

Tai Chi is the yoga in motion, the highest form of martial arts from ancient China. It yokes body and mind which is called yoga. It is nothing but graceful, meditative and light, natural movement of the body which enables to relax and stimulate every part of the body and strengthens the mind. It is based on the moving meditation set in motion by the constant interaction of the two vital energies of nature called Yin the positive and Yang the negative.

Tai Chi is called moving meditation and moving medication that can heal the world of all its ailments. Tai Chi is a drug free therapy of the ancient world. It is easy to learn.  You need not jump up and down, doing acrobatic movements like you are on a pogo stick to get your body fit. Tai Chi exercises are just kinder and gentler ways of exercise to keep our body and mind fit. They are gentle movements that enable easy flow of “Qui” or the vital energy. They not only help you build body muscles but also help to reduce disease symptoms. This yoga practice helps flow of oxygen throughout the body, reduces depression and boosts immunization. It burns the extra calories of the body, maintaining an optimum weight.

Tai Chi is an art of healing

The practice of Tai Chi is said to improve the flow of the vital energy Qui, the traditional Chinese concept of a physically intangible energy or life force. Scientific studies have proved that Tai Chi can heal many diseases including, muscular pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, cardiovascular problems, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes and ADHD. It cures not only diseases of the body but also of the mind. It is an easy art that can be learnt and practiced by all.

Initial need of a teacher

In the beginning stage Tai Chi needs a teacher to teach correct steps. It can also provide the social support gained by attending a class which is invaluable. Local health clubs, community centers, wellness facilities, martial arts studios, YMCA, or YWCA can be suitable places where you can find a teacher.

A day of positive energy

It is encouraging that many of the world nations have come forward to observe this day to make it more fruitful. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ NHIC has included “WORLD TAI CHI & QIGONG DAY” in its National Health Observances Calendar. It has captured the imagination of many countries. It can make the world breathe together, think together and live together!
