Fuel From Natural Gas

While it is relatively unknown, natural gas is one of natural source that can be used to produce fuels. The fuel produce are known as GTL (Gas To Liquid) fuel. These fuels are much cleaner than normal crude oil fuel. It is colourless and smokeless which make it is the cleanest fuels around.

The first process of producing GTL fuels is taking natural gas from natural resources. Natural gas can be found where the crude oil found. While some have their reservoirs of their own. Before the technologies of converting natural gas to become fuels, natural gas reservoir is now well sought off.  

Natural gas are taken from underground reservoirs and sent to treatment plant. Natural gases are full of sulphur and impurities which are poisonous. Therefore it was treated to remove all the impurities. If any of the impurities still present, it is impossible to produce high quality and clean fuels. Besides it will upset the downstream process afterwards. Once fully treated, natural gas will only contain molecule of CO (Carbon Monoxide) and H (Hydrogen).

Then the fully treated natural gases are process through a reactor with a present of catalyst. When it enters the inlet of reactors it was in gas form. While it went through the reactor from inlet to outlet, a reaction takes places by the present of catalyst. This reaction then causes the natural gases, which are gas in nature, to become liquid. The liquid is in wax form initially. That is then it will send further downstream to be process. From being the gases with molecules of carbon monoxides and hydrogen, it becomes liquid wax with molecules of carbon and hydrogen. Because of the presents of oxygen molecules which present in carbon monoxides, water also produces.

The next process is to crack the liquid wax. Besides cracking the wax, it is also remove impurities like olefin and hydrogenates. Olefin is when there is oxygen molecules present in the wax chain. Hydrogenates is when there is double bond that bonding the molecules of hydrogen and carbon. Liquid wax is cracked to become more dilute liquid. Before cracking, the carbon and hydrogen is bond with a very long chain bond. After cracking it is cut into shorter chain bond.  

After cracking into shorted chain, the liquid then sends to be processed at a distillation column. At this distillation column, the liquid waxes are separated according to their grade properties. From being liquid wax, product like clean diesels, jet fuel, drilling fluid and lube oil materials are produce. After being produce at this column, the products are further sent to their respective distillation column to be further process.

At their own distillation column, the lighter materials from the product leaving the product are pure and free from impurities. Once the properties of the product are satisfied and according to customer specification, the products are kept into storage tank ready to be ship out and sell to customers.
