Tea: Health Benefits of Tea

Tea drinking is a regular habit amongst millions of people who wake up to the morning sunshine. They all require a healthy drink for an instant boost in daily activities. However, research has found that drinking a few cups of tea a day can be healthier than water with more added health benefits. The main reason why this is the case would be because tea contains many healthy molecules such as flavonoids, catechins and polyphenols which can also be found in other foods and drinks like coffee, wines, fruits and vegetables. Why is tea healthy? Let us find out below.

Why is Tea good for you?

You cannot deny the fact that tea has many health benefits. It is certainly true that a few cups of tea a day can help protect you from heart disease, cancer, strokes and more.

Tea has several antioxidants such as flavonoids, catechins and polyphenols which help kill the free radicals that are the main causes of heart disease and cancer. Although little information is known about its benefits, there is much more to be discovered.

However, adding milk to your daily tea actually reduces the health benefits of tea. A germen study has discovered that black tea can significantly reduce high blood pressure as it allows the arteries to relax and expand to keep your blood pressure healthy. Proteins in milk called caseins block this effect of the arteries which also means that it reduces the ability to fight heart disease.

The study was tested on 16 humans and on rat tissue. One molecule in tea called catechins had helped open up blood vessels by producing nitric oxide. But the caseins in milk had reduced the number of catechins in tea which reduces the effectiveness of its benefits. By adding milk to tea, it doesn’t mean that the health benefits are completely disbanded. Other health benefits are still readily available whether or not you add milk to your tea. You should also understand that drinking tea for reducing heart disease won’t be as effective itself as other methods such as exercise, keeping away from smoking and maintaining a healthy diet.

How to get started!

The best time to drink a cup of tea is during the early hours of the morning when you get ready for breakfast. Buy high quality loose leaves that can do more good than low quality loose leaves. Just brew up a drink and enjoy. Let us now read about the health benefits below.

1) Tea can Help Skin

One method of treating oily skin and acne is to drink green tea. Green tea helps flush away any toxins that linger inside the body. The condition usually occurs when a person consumes oily or sugary foods which remain in the body for quite a while. So start drinking regular cups of tea for treating spots and acne. 2) Green Tea Strengthens Teeth

Research has found that green tea can increase the life expectancy of your teeth. People live longer now with a lifespan averaging around 80 years and beyond. Unfortunately, your teeth haven’t trained themselves up for this long. Another problem is that teeth cannot repair themselves which means that once your gums are damaged or your tooth decays, it would be impossible to bring the tooth back to life. The only options available would be replacing lost teeth with dental implants, dentures and crowns. Fortunately, there are ways that you can extend the life of your teeth. Green tea contains antimicrobial molecules called catechins which benefit the teeth. A study had discovered that men who drink a cup of green tea a day were 19% less likely to lose teeth than men who drink none. Women had similar results with 13% lower risk of losing teeth.

Other health issues that tea is used for include:

• Heart disease

High cholesterol levels

High blood sugar levels

Now you can sit down every day of your life with a healthy beverage in your hand. Drink to your heart’s content and remember the health benefits that you will gain.
