Our Diet

Let’s face it what we eat determines our overall health, no matter where we are in the world. Since coming to the Philippines, I have seen too many people die an early death; ultimately because of their diet! Every occasion includes large soda bottles and heaping plates of white rice, which is the food staple here. I have witnessed heart failure at age 65, kidney failure at age 35, hypertension and diabetes at age 64. These are people in my immediate and extended family, and I know they are typical of so many people here.

Our diets must be changed so that each meal is 1/3 or less carbohydrates and 2/3 proteins in the form of vegetables and meats such as fish, chicken, and pork or beef. Each of these should include some fat. Animal fats carry the required Omega 3’s and 6’s our body needs in order to actually reduce our overall cholesterol and maintain it at safe levels. A KEY to knowing what should be eaten and what should be avoided is: If it’s processed food or if it was grown using a GMO Genetically Modified Organism (seed) – Stay away from it!

So, what can we do? What are the specifics behind the diets? See my future articles on diet. I will describe a recommended diet for all people, and one specifically for Diabetics, Fungal Infections, Heart and Kidney Disease. Each of these diets is recommended by doctors and some are slightly modified diets already used in the medical industries.


It has long been known that drinking as little as ONE can of soda a day will increase your weight by 15 pounds per year. How long until you weigh 400 pounds? However, the science behind this fact is now being told. The real reason for our obese society is something called Fructose, the man-made sweetener used in the drink industry. Before the 1950’s drinks were sweetened using natural sugars. Although it was used in significant quantity, the body could process it. Since then, the industry has used Fructose, alternately named Corn Syrup. Industry labels may say either, or they may even call it “sugar.” But don’t believe it since Fructose is 1/3 the price of natural sugar so the safe bet is they are really using Fructose. This practice is not limited to the soda industry. All processed fruit drinks and many other drinks on the market are also sweetened with Fructose. You need to be ware of any sweetened drinks, even the ones labeled as vitamin drinks. The question then becomes; what is it sweetened with? Did you know that the sports drink Gatorade invented in 1965 at the University of Florida to replace electrolytes lost during strenuous exercise, was first introduced on the market with another sweetener and certainly another recipe? The original drink tasted horrible and it did not make a big hit until the company was bought out by PepsiCo and they changed the recipe and began using Fructose to sweeten it.

Diet soda and all diet drinks or any other product labeled as a “diet” product has an additional side-effect.  Aspartame, the diet product’s sweetener creates a neural toxin called an Excitotoxin, which causes brain cells to burn out and die because of over-stimulation. Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of affected people must stay away from Aspartame and MSG in certain foods because of their effects on the brain. Aspartame is now the only sweetener found in any chewing gum.

Side-Effects of Diet and Soda

So, what are the side-effects of a poor diet and drinking soda? Our body cannot process more than 30% of the Fructose it takes in. The remaining portion stores as fat! So, weight gain is automatically on the list.

  • Heart Failure – many of the above
