What is YouTube?

In short YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos. The company is based in San Bruno, California, and uses Adobe Flash Video and HTML5 technology to display a wide variety of user-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogging and short original videos. Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals, although media corporations including CBS, BBC, Vevo, Hulu and other organizations offer some of their material via the site, as part of the YouTube partnership program.

1. There are three YouTube creators – Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, Jawed Karim – and before they made YouTube, they worked for PayPal company.

2. 70% of all registred users are from USA.

3. 50% of all registred users are under 20.

4. If YouTube was a Hollywood film company, they would have enough video to realese 60 000 movies a week.

5. To show all of the uploaded videos in the past two months, the leading TV channels NBC, ABC, CBS would have to work 24/7 from 1948.

6. You need atleast a thousand years to view all YouTube videos (but in that time there will be more than 1000000000 videos, so this makes it impossible.)

7. The most popular category is Music. It consists of about 20% of all videos.

8. The biggest number of videos uploaded daily comes from USA, the next in top is UK.

9. The biggest count of views come from USA, the second is Japan.

10. The first uploaded video in history is „Me in the zoo” which was originaly uploaded by one of the creators – Jawed Karim. Uploaded April 23, 2005.

11. The total viewer count a day is bout 2’000’000’000.

12. Google bought YouTube in 2006. The price – 1,65 bilion dollars.

13. A lot of users become famous thanks to YouTube. A guy named Justin Bieber from Canada became famous and signed an expensive contract with a record company thanks to videos he’s mother uploaded on her profile.

14. You can’t really delete the videos you upload. You can simply view deleted YouTube videos by using a simple tool called Deleted YouTube Video Viewer.

15. In March, 2009, the government of China unblocked acces to YouTube. Why was it blocked? Because of a video where chineese solders are beating Tibetan monks and otherTibetans.
