The Mockingbird Bistro Wine Bar is a restaurant that makes high end meets casual dining work and they serve American cuisine with French Riviera flair in a very comfortable environment with an interesting ambiance and décor. The décor has a little funkiness to it and at the same time elegance plus if you wish to have a private event they have two different rooms in which you can do that.
The restaurant is located at 1985 Welch Street in the Montrose area between McDuffie Street and Hazard and its hours of operations are for lunch from Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for dinner every day from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
For their appetizers you can go with the beef carpaccio which comes with mushrooms, shallots and grilled sourdough or the veal sweetbreads which come with grilled Portobello mushrooms arugula salad and pancetta for $16 or the tataki wild salmon with jicama, carrots and cucumber slaw and crispy wontons for $14.
For their main entrées go with the rare tuna which comes with grilled pineapples, sofrito and ginger potatoes for $36, or the spring rabbit Provencal which comes with pappardelle pasta, tomatoes and olives for $26 or even the American Kobe beef burger with foie gras for $32, or even the prime strip loin steak frites which comes with caramelized shallots, arugula and French fries for $39.
And for dessert you can order the apple bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream and caramel sauce, or the crème brulee trio which are mango, raspberry and chocolate or the caramelized apple and pecan crostata with a hazelnut crème and nutella and if you have some time to spare then order the warm bittersweet chocolate torte with a mango sorbet all for $10. Or try the cheese plates either the 3 for $10 or 5 for $ 15 and choose from the bosque blue to the Texas paragon cheese.
The prices of the restaurants are a bit high for a venue that is trying to be casual so they get a C, but the taste and creativity and presentation of the food gets an A- and the sizes are good not too big or too stingy. The service is good as the wait staff is great at coming around to your table just enough times to check and refill your water and try to be friendly so they get an A.
