The tourists and residents of the city were treated with a number of fascinating events in 2010, and 2011 will see the celebration of the same events, in addition to a few new grand events.  April, with its shining sun and occasional showers, is perfect time to venture outdoors and have a blast. It is also a great time to get indoors and spend time in libraries, museums, and exhibitions.

Free Library Festival
This festival was started four years ago, is on the way to become a part of Philadelphia’s tradition, and it has already built a reputation of throwing up creative and original ideas. It has a number of programs that to satisfy the readers of all ages. You get to meet the authors, hear them speak on their books or on the process of writing. Children can take part in a number of activities and view special children collection in the libraries.

Philadelphia Science Festival
While there were a number of Philadelphia events relating to arts, culture, food, and sports, there was no iconic event focusing on science. The Philadelphia Science festival gives the centre stage to science. Educational institutes all over the city will come together and take part in a number of science programs.

Jazz Appreciation Month
April this year is the JAM. This is for anyone who is interested in music: the festival is aimed at making all music-lovers interested in jazz. While many jazz clubs have closed over the last few years, many professional and amateur jazz players from Philadelphia are keeping the tradition alive. You can attend one or more of the jazz nights organized all through the month.

The Philadelphia Antiques Show
This show was first conceptualized in 1962, and you can view a large number of antiques. Learn more about them by listening to lectures by experts. Collectors can visit the collector’s night on 9th April and buy the antiques that are on sale.

Moon Nature Walk
This one is for nature lovers. Can you imagine walking among specially designed and landscaped Tyler Arboretum during the night? The next full moon day, you can walk there by the moon light; you can bring a flashlight for treacherous terrains.

Main Line Restaurant Week
This is the second year for the Main Line Restaurant week. Its first celebration in fall 2010 was very successful. This year, you can dine at any of the restaurants there; can choose prix-fix meals from a $20 simple meal to lavish dining for $50.

Walk+Run Against Hunger
This is one of the Philadelphia events this month that will make you feel good, both spiritually and physically. The organization supports over a hundred soup kitchens, hunger-relief centers and food pantries in Southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey. Take part in the event and lend a hand to the agency’s effort to raise enough money to buy more kitchen equipments and other necessities.
