Currently, Jersey Shore’s fourth season, which is to be filmed in Italy, has been delayed. Some of the Jersey Shore housemates have not yet signed their contracts, and people in Italy are less than thrilled to have Snooki, J-Woww, Pauly D, Vinny, The Situation and Deena Nicole causing trouble in their country.
People in Italy are protesting the show because it sheds a negative light on Italian Americans, and don’t want that kind of mess in Italy. Venues in the Florence area, where the show plans to film, are not exactly welcoming the Jersey Shore reality stars.
That being said, plans to film are still on target, although they won’t occur as soon as MTV hoped. Theoretically, the cast is on board for the journey, as according to Chris Limm (an MTV exec), the cast has discussed having family in Italy, but admitted that many of them actually haven’t visited the country of their origin.
After Jersey Shore season four wraps, two Jersey Shore spinoffs will hit the air. One will feature Snooki and J-Woww doing…well, what do they ever really do? The other will follow Pauly D as he attempts to become a DJ.
Pauly D’s show will be like a reality version of Entourage, according to this source. Pauly claims that hitting the big leagues in the DJing scene hasn’t – and won’t – change him. He says he’s still the same guy he always was.
As for Snooki and J-Woww’s show, the girls will move in together, which they planned to do anyway. Snooki apparently doesn’t want to live with her parents anymore (I didn’t realize that she still did!) and J-Woww doesn’t have a boyfriend to go home to anymore, so she’s looking for something new.
Head honcho at MTV, Chris Linn, does not think the shows will dilute the Jersey Shore franchise. He claims that Snooki and J-Woww’s spinoff, as well as Pauly D’s, will stand on their own, and are different than their originating show. The tone of the shows will be different, making them original, but will still give America the characters they love from the original Jersey Shore.
What do you think of this? Should MTV keep filming Jersey Shore, rather than branching out into spinoffs? Is Pauly D a strong enough name to handle a show on his own?
