How to Do Fabulous Dance Recital Makeup

Are you looking to apply perfect dance recital makeup? It is easier than ever with this guide. In order to achieve a beautiful look for all ages focus on these five areas.

Skin: A good rule is to start with a clean base for your dance recital makeup. Your face should be clean, dry, and moisturized. Using a sponge apply Dual Mineral Powder Foundation to your entire face making sure to blend it into your neck. When applying foundation a wet sponge will give you a more opaque look, dry application will lead to more sheer coverage.

Eyebrows: To start your eyebrows should be shaped with a brow brush. To add color to your brow use a thin eyeliner brush to draw a line in the center of your eyebrow. Use that same brow brush to brush color to the rest of your brow.

When applying this look to a young dancer keep these tips in mind for their dance recital makeup, an eye shadow slightly darker than the dancers hair color will give a less harsh look then an eyebrow pencil. A thinner severe line at the eyebrow creates a sophisticated dramatic but older look. Thicker eyebrows communicate the youth of a dancer.

Eyes: Creating a perfect eye with dance recital makeup takes a couple steps. Use a shimmery white shadow and an eye shadow brush to highlight the brow bone and inner corner of your eye. A damp brush application will give you a stronger brighter highlight.

A brown eyes shadow should be used at your lash line and up to your highlighted brow. You should fade the color intensity of it as you bring it up to your brow. Very softly apply this same shadow below your lower lashes. To use on the lower lash begin in the middle of your lash and pull out the color past the corner of your eye. The line should NOT begin in the corner of your eye. To finish your highlighting a JAM white highlighter eye pencil is perfect for in between the upper and lower lash line. Complete your eye with JAM black water resistant mascara.

ADDING color is much simpler then SUBTRACTING color once you have already applied it to your eye. Start with less you can always add more.

Cheeks: For your cheek color select a blush brush. Begin with the blush brush at your hairline and move it toward the apples of your cheeks. Use a large powder brush to blend over your face and cheeks using Dual Mineral Powder Foundation. NO “clown circles” and don’t take your blush color below the lip line.

A soft blended blush line is key for young dancers. A strong blush line adds years to a dancer’s face.

Lips: To create a dramatic look on your lips line your lips and fill with Warm Brandy Lip Liner. Next step is a red lipstick. I suggest Fierce “red” Mineral Lipstick.

My artistic preference for young dancers is to skip the bold reds. A perfect look for a young dancer? Lining lips and filling lips with a pink mauve lip liner and using a rose colored lipstick. Wild Child “rose” mineral lipstick is the perfect shade. A mauve color will still accent a dancer’s mouth helping them communicate their expressions without adding age to them unnecessarily.

These steps will help you complete your perfect dance recital makeup look. You will exude confidence knowing you are looking your best as you take the stage. And of course use the easy adjustments at the eyebrows, cheeks, and lips to give younger dancers a wonderful age-appropriate look that can still be seen clearly on stage.
