Ecclesiastes 12: 9-14

9 And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs. 10 The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth. 11 The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd. 12 And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
14 For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.

We live in an age that it is hard to find the truth in anything! We have the media tell the truth as they see it, musicians that sing immorality, and everyday people that are caught in the middle of it all! The world teaches us that if we don’t have the right cloths, or make enough money than we are worthless!

The Book of Ecclesiastes sounds like a book of depression, but it is not! The author is telling us just how the world is which is no different than today’s society. It tells us how people work day in, and day out. People who work for the next generation only for that generation not to appreciate it. It tells us how people work hard only to get very little. It is all referred as “Vanity”!

Despite the world and everything that it teaches we read of one man, “the Preacher”, who goes out to seek “acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth.” to teach to the world.

Who is the Preacher? In the Book of Ecclesiastes it is believed to Solomon, the wisest king in the Old Testament. But, are we preacher? Do we not teach people everyday something? The answer to both questions is YES! Just because we are speak in front of a church does not mean somebody does not listen to what we have to say.

Christians are responsible for teaching the world about Jesus Christ! We are commissioned to spread the Word of where we go, and to everyone we meet! Matthew 28:19, 20 says “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…”. We to learn Godly knowledge! Knowledge that is truth and of the doctrine of man!

Finally, verse 13 says it all for us! “13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
14 For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.”
Is this not what our whole lives are about? Fearing God! Serving God! Loving God! It seems to me that without any of this the things that we do in life would be “Vanity!” It is important for us to put God before all things.
