Another manifestation of the same kind, the working of miracles; And another manifestation of the same kind, prophecy; And another manifestation of the same kind, discerning of spirits; to another manifestation of a different kind, speaking in tongues; and another manifestation of the same kind, the interpretation of tongues:
The truth about the latter rain, means taking Christianity to a whole new level, which makes it unprecedented, radical thinking rather than stone cold pious holiness,
Latter rain believers are always emphasizing on spiritual gifts, fasting, and prayer and from Joel’s prophecy to the five -fold ministry of Ephesians 4:11.
For as the rain comes down and the snow from heaven and returns not thither, but waters the earth and makes it bring forth bud that it may give seed to the sewer and bread to the eater. So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth, it shall not return unto me void.” “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. I will pour my spirit upon your seed and my blessing upon your offspring.”
In these verses is threaten the prophecies that would eventually come to pass on the day of Pentecost, the infant church, under the direction of the Holy Spirit would be a force to be reckon with, the supernatural powers of the church would attract people from every nation under the sun, to pause in their life pursuit and listen to the apostles speak the wonderful works of God.
At Pentecost we do hear the apostles speaking with unknown tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and we see the miracles of the latter rain in manifestation of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
When did the last days begin? The last days began with the ascension of Christ to heaven and the coming of Pentecost. We are now living in end times, and part of our duty is to bring a blessing into the lives of others.
Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waited for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. James 5:7
“Where is the promise of His coming?” cries the scoffer of 2 Peter. “Be patient, “the coming of the Lord is drawing near.” But it may be some time yet, he warns. You will need the patience of a farmer, waiting for both the early and latter rains before he can harvest the fruit of the earth.
The key to understanding many of the mysteries of the end-times is the harvest. Jesus will not return until the harvest is completely in. He declared in Matthew 24:14 that the Gospel must be preached in the entire world before the end can come. Peter tells us that the Lord, who is willing that none should perish, is only tarrying until more people be brought to salvation in Christ Jesus, (2 Peter 3:9, 15).
But James is telling us even more than this. He is prophesying of the great revival which is to come upon the earth in the last days. James says it’s going to be exciting. He reminds us of Joel’s prophecy of the early and latter rain. You see, the rainy cycle of Israel is a prophetic type of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the harvest of souls associated with true revivals.
Prophetically speaking, the early rain corresponds to Pentecost and the First Century Church. The Apostle Peter stood up in Acts chapter two and declared that “this is what was written by the prophet Joel.
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
