When temperature drops below the freezing point what do you do? You simply turn up your heating system’s thermostat. But the more you turn up the thermostat, the more power it consumes and the more is the power bill. The more you push your system beyond its limit, more is your necessity to avail heating service. There are certain ways to keep yourself comfortably warm without turning your system to its optimal level. The ways are provided in the following lines.

Keep all windows closed-:

Whenever you turn on your home heating systems, you must ensure that all doors and windows are closed. Heat from inside the house can escape through windows and doors and similarly cold winds from outside can enter through them. You should avoid activities that need frequent opening of windows.

Even when the windows are closed warm air can still escape through the cracks and spaces between the window frames and the wall and also from loose panes. To avoid this you can install durable weather stripping.

Caulk all cracks and crevices-:

caulking all cracks and crevices between wall and window frames, in walls and loose panes is necessary to avoid the escape of heat from your house. Any crack in the walls or windows and doors can lead to heat exchange between the house and the outside. This can reduce the room temperature making you less comfortable. Caulking and taping the cracks and crevices can make a huge difference in heating up your home.

This particular method can also be a part of your heating troubleshooting.

It is suggested that you keep your doors closed at all times like your windows. This will help the limitation of heat escaping from your house. Like caulking or weather-stripping your windows, you should also do the same with your doors. Apart from caulking the space or crack between your door frame and the wall, you will need to install a sweep or draft-stopper under your doors. This is needed since majority of the heat lost through the door is through the space between the door and the floor.

This limits the escaping of warm air from inside thereby contributing to the efficiency of your home heating systems.

Keep your radiators clean and well maintained-:

If your apartment has radiators, you should make sure that it is well maintained and kept clean. Make sure the radiator is free from dirt and debris. If not, this will trigger the need of your system to perform more than needed and therefore more power consumption. You should also ensure that the radiator is not blocked by anything. If anything, books or furniture is blocking your radiator it may block the heat flow making your system less effective. You should therefore remove such objects from near and around the radiator.

If you follow the above steps, you can be assured of a more comfortable heating. These methods are also ways to limit your system’s power consumption. It is also advised that you should also take up regular maintenance program and other necessary heating services in order to keep your system fit and fine at all times.
