Presidents’ Day is celebrated on the third Monday in February

Dying is just like taxes in the respect that it is going to happen to you and me. Over history, we realize it doesn’t matter who you are, you are going to face death. Famous people have no secret weapon against death. They are just like you and I. They will die. We will die. Death is a part of life. However, many of us look forward to eternal life in Heaven. After we all pass from this world, I hope to meet each one of you in a better place called Heaven.

What Happened on This Day in History? Today is President’s Day

1431- England begins trial against Joan of Arc

1792- Congress passes President Succession Act

1853- US authorizes minting of $3 gold pieces

1857 – US issues flying eagle cents

1862- Confederate Constitution & presidency are declared permanent

1885- Washington Monument dedicated (Washington DC)

1974- Israeli forces leave western Suez

1993- 43rd NBA All-Star Game: West beats East 135-132 (OT) at Salt Lake City

Deaths

1561-1595-Robert Southwell was an English Jesuit/poet who worked as a missionary in Post-Reformation England, he was imprisoned for ten years and beaten severely ten times, he was put on trial for treason, found guilty and hanged

1577-1648-Christian IV was the king of Denmark/Norway for fifty-nine years

1637-1715- Charles Calvert was the 3rd Baron Baltimore, Governor of the Province of Maryland

1800-1846-Emperor Ninko of Japan, he was emperor from 1817-1846

1837-1864-Jeffery Forrest was a US Confederate Brigadier-General who died in battle

1902-1945-Eric Liddell was a Scottish runner who won Olympic Gold Medal in 1924 in the 400 meters and Eric Liddell was also a missionary, his Christian convictions are portrayed in the 1981 movie ‘Chariots of Fire’

1925-1965- Malcolm X was a famous black Moslem leader who was assassinated in NYC at 39, Malcolm X was a human rights activist who was considered by some to be a preacher of racism, anti-Semitism and Black Supremacy others consider him one of the greatest and influential African-Americans in history

1968 –Howard Walter Florey was an Australian-born pharmacologist, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his role in the extraction of Penicillin

1898-1984-Michail A Sholochov was a Russian writer who received the Nobel Prize in 1965 for writing Ocean Don

1865-1986-Shigechiyo Izumi was a Japanese sugarcane farmer, also the world’s oldest man ever to live in modern history

1916-1993– Ferrucci Lamborghini was a famous car maker of the Lamborghini

1918-1999 –Gertrude B. Elion was an American scientist, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for developing new drugs, her work led to the development of the AIDS drug AZT
