2 Peter 1:2-4 NASB
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
This passage clearly tells us that God has entrusted to us everything we need, everything pertaining to life and godliness! God has not short-changed you on any aspect of your life, but you may not be realizing that! In Ephesians, chapter one, it says we have been given every heavenly blessing. Think of it…we’ve got every one of them available to us.
This reminds me of the guy out in west Texas during the 1930s during great depression. Of course he was a farmer/rancher. During that time there had been a multi-year drought and all of that region was called the dust bowl. They couldn’t grow any crops and they were broke. Just a few years later the oil companies came out there and leased their land. As a result, they found oil and those same destitute farmers were now filthy rich! You know they had all those resources available to them all during that dust bowl time, when they were so broke, but they just didn’t know it! You know, you have so many resources available to you, but you may not realize it. God has made them all available to you! All you have to do is take advantage of them.
This passage clearly states that the marshaling of these resources comes through these precious and magnificent promises. Let me ask you a question. Do you know what these promises are? Have you taken the time to research them? God has promised you that He would be with you. He’ll never leave you or forsake you. He’s promised that He will supply all that you need to accomplish what is on His heart. He’s promised that He will give you success, prosperity in accomplishing what He wants. Let me ask you a question. Have you really got a grasp on what God wants you to accomplish?
That’s really what stewardship is all about. It’s not just about going through a budget or figuring out what you are going to give. It’s about understanding the big picture, of what God wants you to accomplish and marshaling all your resources to accomplish that!
