Dell Inspiron 1300 – A Budget Laptop

Dell Inspiron 1300is a budget laptop and there aren’t a lot of high end materials used inside in order to keep the price low. The entire body is made out of plastic and there isn’t any magnesium or aluminium protection used. The plastic is not flimsy though; in fact, it feels very sturdy. There aren’t any flexing problems on the keyboard or body either.

The hinges of the Dell Inspiron 1300 are pretty firm and there is not much wobble on the display if you move this laptop around. This is really impressive since the hinges are weak on such low end laptops. The lid protection too is pretty good; you won’t see a lot of ripples on the screen if you push the lid from the back. But the plastic area around the display isn’t held very well.

Dell Inspiron 1300 is a mixture of black and silver. The lid is grey-silver color and the rest of this body is black colored with silver trim accent on the keyboard. The looks are better than the earlier Inspirons having white and silver finish to it. However, I was disappointed to see the ugly looking holes for the front speakers. They look like vents and the big LED green light indicators give the laptop a kinda old look. This notebook won’t win any beauty contests but it isn’t ugly looking either.

But if you are looking for a more portable laptop, there is Asus Eee PC 4G. It is compact and lightweight weighing at about two pounds and has seven inch screens with resolution of 800×480 pixels. Under the hood, the Asus Eee PC 4G has Intel Celeron M processor running at a clock speed of 900 MHz. The mother board used is 910GML and it has GMA 900 integrated graphics. For storing data, there is four GB internal storage and other features on the Asus Eee PC 4G include Ethernet LAN connection, Web camera, VGA output, 3 USB ports, media card reader and 801.11 b/g Wi-Fi.

Asus Eee PC 4G has a Linux based user interface that is quite easy to use. If you want to use Windows based system, you will have to pay extra money for it.

However, if you are looking for something that it even more travel friendly, check out the ViewSonic ViewPad 100. It is a ten inch tablet, just like an iPad and has everything that you’d want in a tablet PC. The options for connectivity on the ViewSonic ViewPad 100 are comprehensive and there is dual boot system too. But it is really disappointing to see that this device doesn’t come with 3G and the Android OS is outdated.

ViewSonic ViewPad 100 has a 1.66 Ghz single core Atom processor and for storing data, there is 16 GB SSD inside. Connection options include two USB ports, 3.5 mm headphones jack, microSD card slot, mini VGA video out and there is also a 1.3 megapixels Webcam for video calling. There are two OSes inside and for switching, you need to reboot the ViewSonic ViewPad 100.
