Need so save some “dough”? With food prices going up and up, I make my own breads and rolls to save money on our food budget. This is a great recipe for dinner rolls or small loaves of bread that tastes great with almost every meal. I have also altered and adjusted this recipe for high altitude baking.
1 cup warm water
2 1/2 tablespoons butter, softened
3 1/4 cups flour (add 3 tablespoons extra flour for high altitudes)
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon sea salt
3 teaspoons regular active dry yeast or quick-acting yeast
1. Place ingredients in bread machine in the order listed above. Then select the dough cycle or Sweet Dough on some machines.
2. When dough is complete, grease a baking sheet. For dinner rolls, divide dough into equal pieces, about 15, and roll into a ball. Place about 2 inches apart onthe baking sheet and brush with melted butter. Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes. They will almost double in size. You can also make small loaves by dividing into 4 to 5 equal pieces and make them loaf shaped. Separate by 4 inches on baking sheet.
3. Heat oven to 375 degrees. When hot, bake for 10-15 minutes for rolls and 15-18 minutes for small loaves, or until golden brown on top.
4. When done, you can brush with butter again to make them soft, but I do not.
Voila! You have made the best bread or dinner rolls for your family. Plus you saved money too! Win-Win, I say.
