Introduction:

Chemicals in soaps harm the environment by causing algal blooms in water bodies like ponds, lakes and rivers.  These algal blooms kill the fish by depriving them of life giving oxygen.  Chemicals in soaps can also harm the skin in the long run.  People are becoming aware of these facts, thanks to spread of knowledge through various media like newspaper, television and the Internet.  People are looking for environment friendly alternatives to body soaps.  

Environment Friendly Alternatives to Body Soap:

Here is a list of environment friendly alternatives to body soaps:  

Carrot and pomegranate body soap:  This soap made from natural carrot and pomegranate seed oils is rich in antioxidants.  It is free from toxins.    

Tea tree oil soaps:  Soaps made with tea tree oil (Ti Tree Oil or Melaleuca Oil) are naturally aromatic.  They are also anti-fungal, antiseptic, antibiotic and antiviral by nature.  

Goat’s milk soap:  Soaps made from goat’s milk are good for the skin.  They protect the skin from various germs and chemicals effectively.  The proteins in this soap kill acne causing bacteria.  It is also found to be good for people suffering from eczema (skin condition caused by red, itchy skin patches).  

Olive oil soap:  Soap made from olive oil is mild on the skin and keeps skin fresh with its natural moisturizing properties.  It also keeps the skin smooth and firm.  Olive oil soap is prescribed for people suffering from skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and acne.  

Honey soap:  Health benefits of consuming honey are well known.  Soap made from honey cures many skin diseases.  This soap is found to be good for both dry and oily skins.  Honey soap is also an excellent moisturizer.  

Lavender soap:  The word lavender has its roots in the Latin word “Lavere” which means “to wash”.  Soap made from lavender oil smells very good.  It is anti-bacterial and antiseptic and is very gentle on the skin.  Research studies have also found that lavender produces relaxing brain waves.  It is used in aromatherapy.  But pregnant and breast feeding ladies should avoid lavender soap .

Aloe Vera soap:  Soap made from Aloe Vera (also known as Cape Aloe) is rich in vitamins and minerals.  It is good for sunburn, acne, scars, rashes and other skin infections.  

Lemon-grass soap:  This soap has a refreshing aroma.  This soap has a soothing effect on the skin and prevents wrinkles.  It also prevents acne and other bacterial and fungal infections.     

Rosemary soap:  This soap keeps skin fresh.  It keeps the skin elastic and prevents the skin from bacterial infections.  

More and more people should start using these soaps made from natural ingredients.  Corporate houses should start manufacturing and marketing these soaps in large scale.
