The Common tab of the Format Editor provides basic formatting options forany field.
• Suppress. Use this option to suppress a field from printing on a report. In formulas you may need a field for part of a variable, but you do not want that value to print on your report. You may also want to use a formula to suppress a field if some condition is met.
• Horizontal Alignment, Open the list next to this option to view the alignment choices. Horizontal Alignment aligns the data within an object.
• Keep Object Together. This option is selected by default. When selected, this option prevents any page breaks within the object. For example, if an object covers two lines, a page break will not be allowed between the two lines of the one object.
• Close Border on Page Break. This option docs exactly as the name implies. It closes any border on the bottom of a page and reopens it at the top of the next page. Of course, it applies only when you have added a border to the object on the Border tab.
“Can Grow This option is similar to text wrapping. By default, no database fields automatically wrap or grow; this way, you can be assured of the formatting and placement of fields on a report. Select the Grow check box to allow a field to grow vertically if needed. Use this option for fields in your database where comments or text may have been entered and you need to accommodate various field lengths. The field grows down vertically only; it does not grow horizontally. Yon need to manually size your field, horizontally. The Maximum Number of Lines setting allows you to set a limit to the number of lines of field growth.
