About India

India is a country in South Asia and is the seventh largest country by geographical area. It is the second most populated country with over 1.2 billion people after china. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, Bay of Bengal on the east, Arabian Sea on the west. Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal are the neighboring countries. As big as India is, it is diverse in all respects. “India” also known as Bharat is derived from the river Indus. The valley around the river Indus was the home of the early settler, the Aryans, who referred river Indus as the Sindhu.
It was annexed by the British East India Company in the early 18th century and colonized by the United Kingdom from the mid 19th century. Though modern images in India often show poverty, it was one of the richest countries before British invaded India in the early 17th century.
It became independent nation in the year 1947 after a struggle for independence through non violent means led by Mahatma Gandhi.
India consists of 28 states and seven union territories. It is a pluralistic, multilingual and multi-ethnic society. Hindi is the national language and twenty two official languages are recognized by the constitution. Hindi is widely spoken in the north and in the south it is hardly spoken. About 1600 minor languages are spoken all over India.
Sanskrit is consider the mother of all languages. As it is more precise, it is therefore suitable for computer software.
Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism originated here, while Islam, Christianity, Judaism and Zoroastrianism arrived in the first millennium and shaped the regions diverse culture. 81.3% of the population is Hindu, 12% Muslim, 2.3% Christian, 1.9% Sikh, 0.4% Jains, 0.01% Zoroastrians or Parsis and few Jews can be found in Kochi, in a tiny old Jewish community established about 2000 years ago..
The clothes, the looks, the festivals, their culture and tradition, their language, their way of life, their art, everything varies from one state to another.

India is a democratic county, and all men and women have equal rights. But practically it looks different. Dowry system still prevails in modern India, though it is illegal. Many families prefer boy to a girl. Female infanticide is very common, there are more men than women in this county i.e. 935 females to 1000 males.
It is a home to wildlife in a variety of protected habitats. India has become one of the fastest growing major economies in the world, but still the country faces several poverty, illiteracy, corruption and public health related challenges. India is a newly industrialized country and world’s sixth nuclear weapon state and third largest standing armed force. It is a member of the Non-Aligned Movement, United Nations, World Trade Organization, East Asia Summit, the South Asian Association For Regional Cooperation, the G8+5, G20 and also a member of the Common Wealth of Nations.

India is a spiritual land as it has a very rich and dynamic culture that attracts every traveler. It is a land where religion and philosophy have attained their cultivating points. It is a reward to traveler who would like to explore this mysterious country. There are lots of travel destinations in India that includes historical monuments, palaces, forts, ancient temples and the architectural sites. It has a tremendous variation in topography and climate from the desert region of Rajasthan to the scenic hill station, sun drenched beaches, green valleys of Himachal, the rain forest of the north east and the wildlife sanctuaries. You can explore this magical land of India either by railway or by air, meet the soul of India, the people,  live their traditions, eat their food and enjoy lot of sightseeing’s.
