Being a Kardashian isn’t necessarily a dream come true, especially for Khloe, the youngest of the three superstar sisters. She is constantly criticized about her weight. She is not as thin or petite as her sisters, Kim and Kourtney, nor does she have their tanner complexion. Khloe is very tall, with a more shapely physique, and fair skin. There is nothing wrong with any of these attributes. Each makes her uniquely beautiful. Every female is not going to be “stickpin” thin. It is long overdue for our society to stop expecting that. A woman is not unattractive because she has large hips or big legs. Genetics are a factor, one a lot of people fail to consider. Just because her sisters are smaller does not mean she is automatically should be. Each have an individual genetic make up. She briefly dyed her hair red, no doubt in an attempt to make a positive statement regarding her looks. Khloe is under enormous pressure, more than we could ever imagine. The Kardashian sisters are hugely popular, the “IT” girls of the day. Every move they make is noticed and reported. While waiting in line at the grocery store, it is impossible not to see their faces on the magazine racks. They grace dozens of covers. Their book, Kardashian Confidential, has reached best-seller status. As a result, these girls are expected by the public to be perfect. This makes Khloe all the more susceptible to scrunity.
Worst thing of all, Khloe herself is starting to give these scathing comments attention. A few weeks ago, she went online on her blog to admit the insults really take a toll of her. She referred to her weight as “my biggest lifetime struggle.” Today, she publicly called herself “the ugly sister.” This comes from an interview she and her sisters did with “Love” magazine, a UK publication. She went on to say she has endured people saying nasty things about her twice a day for the past five years. She claims to “brush it off”, but is she really? To me, she seems genuinely hurt by the ridicule and negative attention. People usually open up about things that truly bother them, and she has done so more than once. Khloe’s feelings are justified. Should she not be affected by these nasty cracks simply because she is a wealthy celebrity? She is a human being, with feelings and emotions.
I have a new respect and admiration for this young woman. I know how it feels to be made fun of and humiliated because you are not the thinnest girl in the room. I was a senior in high school, and had put on some extra weight. The insults I got in my recordkeeping class were horrible. I lost the weight, but not the memory. It has to be a million times worse when your life is in the public eye. My greatest concern is I hope she does not allow it to lead her into an eating disorder. This could have happened to me. Those hateful critics out there are not worth it.
I wish Khloe all the best. She is a lovely girl, and unlike her sisters, who appear to be more plastic and wooden in personality, Khloe is just the opposite-a real person.
