How to Find My Computer Network Name

What is the network name of my computer?
You need the network name (NetBIOS name) of your computer if you want to share some of its files and folders. For example you can share your music library and use it from your smartphone via the myExplorer application.

 

Please follow the instructions for your operating system:

 

For Windows 7:

    * Click the Start menu and then click the Control Panel.
    * Click System and Security and then click System.
    * This will open a window with some basic system information. You will find the network name of the computer next to the Computer name: label.

 

For Windows Vista:
    * Click the Start menu and then click the Control Panel.
    * Click Performance and Maintenance and then click System.
    * This will open a window with some basic system information. You will find the network name of the computer next to the Computer name: label.

 

For Windows XP:

    * Click the Start menu and then click the Control Panel.
    * Click Performance and Maintenance and then click System.
    * Click the Computer name tab. In this tab, click the Change… button.
    * This will open the Computer Name Changes dialog. In this dialog you will find the computer name under the Computer name: label. Make sure to click the Cancel button to avoid chaning the name of the computer accidently.

 
For Mac OS X:

    * Click the System Preferences icon on the dock to open it.
    * Click Network icon in the Internet & Wireless section.
    * Click the Advanced… button at the bottom of the window.
    * Select the WINS tab.
    * You will see the computer name next to the NetBIOS Name: label.
