Social Networking as a Platform

One of the most creative and innovative development in the Internet today is Social Networking. Originally, it’s a community for people who share the same interest in the Internet. However, nowadays, it’s used for different purposes such as disseminating information, selling products and playing games. But before we go further, let’s define what social networking is first.

When we hear the term “social networking” we, most often, are thinking about socializing online. It means millions of people across every geographic, social and economic barrier sharing interests and information with each other. For instance, Facebook alone has more than 500 million registered users. This leads to social networking sites becoming more and more sophisticated with the way they provide the users with information, advice, friendship, entertainment, and so on.

The discussion of social media and networking tends to focus on the myriad of possibilities and opportunities that such a global network opens up, which is something that excites many different sectors. The ability to connect and cross cultural and geographic barriers alone has proven its worth, providing people more chances to understand others. The Internet and social networking systems have also become hubs for commercial interests, of both a local and international nature. Online services like Amazon and e-Bay have made significant changes to the way people buy and sell products and services. Even social networking sites have come to embrace e-commerce, though the process is a slow one.

Online networking covers everything these days – general sites like Facebook, business sites like LinkedIn, educational sites like Ezine, TV series addict sites like Miso, Cyclists sites like Pedal room, blood donor sites like i-Blood. Name it, it’s here. In a nutshell, social networking sites still serve its topmost purpose, which is to allow people sharing the same interests to socialize with one another.

One important thing about users is that they have the proclivity to stick to a certain brand or service. This is the reason why marketers come up with the most effective advertising methods that they can. Buy how exactly is commerce connected with social networking? Well, it is generally known that social networking exists through the investments of advertisers who want to reach out to potential online buyers.

For many, social networking has become increasingly challenging to truly define, largely because it keeps shifting and adapting to situations without anyone really being around to control it. Yet, somehow, people and companies are able to figure out what they want to do with those networks before they actually jump into the proverbial shark pool. The sheer complexity of some of these networks serves to underscore an intriguing little detail: they are mere reflections of the complexities of society in the real world.

Theoretically, a social network is a group of people sharing things they have in common like information and the like. You can either be business partners, sharing experiences, family experiences and whatnot. As people, we want to be able to contribute something, be useful, learn new things, grow and feel like we have a purpose in life. This is what social networking aims to be.

So, whether you want to use social media sites for getting in touch with friends, marketing your services, playing games, or probably all at the same time, there will always be promising opportunities awaiting you.
