Yakima is a wonderful place to raise a family.  The cost of living is low, the weather is great and there is an abundance of activities and attractions.  During the summer, you will enjoy spending the evenings outdoors as the temperature is heavenly and there are no mosquitoes.  Yakima features four distinct seasons in a setting perfect to fully enjoy each one, with access to great spots for skiing, snowboarding and snow shoeing during winter, beautiful spring blossoms from the apple orchards, a hot summer with no humidity and a beautiful fall in which you can truly experience fall harvest at it’s best. From Cowiche Canyon, Vinyards and local wine, beautiful golf courses, and the famous Yakima Apple, there is plenty to enjoy in Yakima.  Here you will find the best of Yakima!  

Best Eats:

Apple Tree Golf Course Resort is an immaculate golf course with the famouse apple hole.  “Over the past decade, the Apple Tree Golf Course has quickly become one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier golf experiences. Carved from the rolling terrain of 100 year-old orchards in Yakima, Washington, Apple Tree’s prestigious resume includes a 4-star rating by Golf Digest.”
Even if you are not a golfer, make your way up to the Grill for breakfast, lunch or dinner overlooking this beautiful orchard filled golf course.  The breakfast here is wonderful and the prices are great.  This is also a perfect venue for your wedding or special event. 

The Tasting Room Yakima   is the perfect place to start your wine tasting tour!  Try over 25 wines from boutique wineries Harlequin Wine Cellars, Mountain Dome Winery, Naches Heights Vineyards and Wilridge Winery. 

The Barrel House Restaurantis a cozy restaraunt with a great dining experience and an extensive wine selection.  This would be a great place for a nice date, private event or just if you are craving a dilectable dining experience with great service and a good atmosphere.

Gasperetti’sis the place to go for italian and is one of the nicest places in town.

Miner’s Drive Inn is an experience not to be missed.  It is a Yakima tradition that has been family run and owned for many, many years.  Try the famous Miner Burger and fries and choose from the best milkshakes around town!  The Miner burger is not your average burger, people travel from all over the state to enjoy the Miner’s experience again and again.  located 2415 S 1st St Yakima, WA 98903 Open Fri-Sat 8:45am-3:30pm.

Mercedes & Family Food To Go is the best Mexican food in town.  It’s a small hole in the wall place with not much parking and not much space inside, but you will not regret going.  They make the tortilla for your taco or burrito when you order it, couldn’t get much fresher than that!  And the Tamales are amazing and the prices are very afforadable and the family who runs the place and makes your food are super friendly. located 5603 Tieton Dr Ste A

Jenny Mae’s Gluten Free Goodies is a new place in town catering to those on a gluten free diet.  located at 8308 Ahtanum Road, Yakima WA 98903.  Make your way over there to enjoy the best gluten free breads, rolls, pizza, cookies, muffins, pie, cupcakes, donuts you name it!  All her products are also casein free and soy free.

Best Outdoors, Parks & Rec:

Cowiche Canyon Trailis a easy escape for a quick day hike or mountain bike ride.  However, Yakima summers are hot so the best time is to go in the spring or fall or early morning during the summer.  Other trails to check out are the Winery Trail that connects the Cowich Canyon with The Tasting Room Washington.  Also try the Snow Mountain Trails and the Uplans Trails.  You can view maps and information for these four trails here.

For the Skaters out there, enjoy spending a day at the Yakima Skate Park located on 40th Avenue and River Road
Yakima, WA 98902.

For the Golf lovers, as mentioned above, The Apple Tree Golf Course is THE place to go.  You can also look into the Yakima Country Club, which has an amazing restaurant and the golf course is beautiful and suppurb. Typically you have to be a member or the guest of a member to use the course and dine at the restaurant.

For paved walking and riding paths along the Scenic Yakima River, fishing, playgrounds and more, check out the Yakima Greenway

If you need afforadable fitness, try West Valley Fitness (although it is small and crowded and has no classes, it’s affordable) located at 208 S 72nd Ave # 210 Yakima, WA 98908.  If you can afford to pay a little more and would like a nicer facility with more to offer from a clean, less busy cardio and weights area, fitness classes and has a swimming pool and hot tub, check out the Yakima Athletic Club.  They also have a swim club and other youth programs, personal training and nutrition support.

Enroll your child(ren) ages 5-18 in The First Tee of Yakimaprogram whose mission is “to impact the lives of young people in the Yakima Valley by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.”

Experience the Elk Feeding Station, bring your camera and some lunch and enjoy wildlife up close!
