This Talent Guide is for warriors and warrior talents. The warrior is a great class for players that like to have a lot of interaction with the characters. Warriors require a lot of macros and keybinds. I would say that warriors depend more on keybinds and macros than any other class in world of warcraft.
If you enjoy high burst mobility with down time in between, then you will like the warrior joust style play. Many of the warrior specs are based around burst damage and staying out your target for windows of opportunity. Warriors do not offer my defence tho, so you will usually need a healer. A fury speced warrior will usually do higher burst damage and will die a little faster. When you get good resilience, the warriors weakness is mended a bit.
Since warriors rely on healers so much, you will find that solo play is not as great as some other classes. Warriors fair O.K. now due to buffs to their survivability through self healing, but the warrior specs are still so relient on burst damage that, in some of the specs, you are not able to pick up all of the dps and healing talent, and are forced to chose between more damage or self healing talents.
I will go over all of the warrior talents and do a quick breakdown for you on them.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Incite. Increases the critical strike chance of your Heroic Strike by 5%, and gives your Heroic Strike criticals a 33% chance to cause the next Heroic Strike to also be a critical strike. These guaranteed criticals cannot re-trigger the Incite effect. This was an overpowered talent when HS was really strong, now the talent is about even with deep wounds.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Toughness. Increases your armor value from items by 3%. This is a general armor talent for tanking purposes.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Blood and Thunder. When you Thunder Clap a target affected by your Rend, you have a 50% chance to affect every target with Rend. This will give you a nice boost to aoe theat in pve, and really has no uses in pvp.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Shield Specialization. You generate 5 extra rage when you block an attack. You generate 20 extra rage when you Spell Reflect a magic attack. This is a great talent in pve tanking, and in pvp, this will give a great rage spike when you reflect a spell.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Shield Mastery. Reduces the cooldown of your Shield Block by 10 sec, your Shield Wall by 60 sec and your Spell Reflect by 1 sec. Your cooldowns are very important to tanking, and this will help a lot when avoiding damage.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Hold the Line. Improves your critical strike and critical block chance by 10% for 5 sec following a successful parry. This will give you a great avoidance spike when taking melee damage, especially in multi melee damage.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Gag Order. Gives your Shield Bash and Heroic Throw a 50% chance to silence the target for 3 sec. Also lowers the cooldown on Heroic Throw by 15 sec. This is a great pvp talent, but I do not take it to tank.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Last Stand. Temporarily grants you 30% of your maximum health for 20 sec. After the effect expires, the health is lost. This is a great cooldown to save your life. This is also fun in pvp.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Concussion Blow. Stuns the opponent for 5 sec and deals (75 / 100 * AP) damage (based on attack power). This does a good bit of damage, and it sone of the best melee stuns in the game.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Baston of Defense. Reduces the chance you’ll be critically hit by melee attacks by 3% while in Defensive Stance. In addition, when you block, dodge or parry an attack you have a 10% chance to become Enraged, increasing physical damage done by 5% for 12 sec. This is your crit reduction talent, and this gives you and enrage that is up a lot of the time, which will increase your threat.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Warbringer. Your Charge, Intercept and Intervene abilities are now usable while in combat and in any stance. In addition, your Intervene ability will remove all movement impairing effects. This gives you a ton of mobility, and makes prot pvp really fun also. In pve this gets your from a to b, or x to skull ;P
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Improved Revenge. Increases the damage of your Revenge ability by 30% and causes Revenge to strike an additional target for 50% damage. Revenge hits really hard, and now it hits two people. This is a great talent.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Devastate. Sunder the target’s armor causing the Sunder Armor effect. In addition, causes 150% of weapon damage plus 336 for each application of Sunder Armor on the target. The Sunder Armor effect can stack up to 3 times. This is great because you no longer have to stack sunders (does anyone even remember those days) and this actually does good damage. I personally like the talent.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Impending Victory. Using Devastate on a target with 20% or less health has a 25% chance to allow the use of Victory Rush but that Victory Rush only heals for 5% of your health. I am not really a fan of this talent because of the 20% requirement. It could be better and I usually don’t take this in my pvp and pve talent specs.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Thunderstruck. Improves the damage of your Rend, Cleave and Thunder Clap by 3%. In addition, your Thunder Clap improves the damage of your next Shockwave by 5%. Stacks up to 3 times. This is a great talent when stacked to full in an aoe group.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Vigilance. Focus your protective gaze on a group or raid target. Each time they are hit by an attack your Taunt cooldown is refreshed and you gain Vengeance as if 20% of the damage was done to you. Lasts 30 min. This effect can only be on one target at a time. This is great in 5 mans, and to off tank. This ability is also really cool in pvp, your AP will really sky rocket when your team mate is focused, which is cool because you really do not put out that much damage as is, and your self healing is, in my opinion, worse than any other tank in the game.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Heavy Repercussions. While your Shield Block is active, your Shield Slam hits for an additional 50% damage. This strait up makes your shield slams hit very hard.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Safeguard. Reduces damage taken by the target of your Intervene ability by 15% for 6 sec. I played around with a prot spec in 2s, and this talent was really fun for pvp. But in pve this is a really useful talent, especially used on a healer in aoe situations, because they always seem to save themselves to last to heal.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Sword and Board. Increases the critical strike chance of Devastate by 5%. In addition, when your Devastate or Revenge deal damage, they have a 10% chance of refreshing the cooldown of your Shield Slam and reducing its cost by 100% for 5 sec. This will reset shield slams cooldown a ton, and save you a lot of rage in the process.
The protection fury level 85 warrior talent we will go over is Shockwave. Sends a wave of force in front of you, causing (75 / 100 * AP) damage (based on attack power) and stunning all enemy targets within 10 yards in a frontal cone for 4 sec. This is the best stun in the game if you ask me. A 20 second cooldown in pvp in stupid, and the damage it does is great, and is even better with thunderstruck stacked. This is also aoe, and if you are any good, you can get 3 or 4 in a 5v5 pvp, and really gets those flag caps and FC kills in battleground pvp. For pve this is so good, in 5 mans, this is an auto tank, and a life saver with ads. Just an awesome ability and I love it as much as I love any ability in the game. I think I would chose this on just about any toon of any class, just think of the fun. This will make you want to pvp as prot. 15k crits with this bad boy easy.
