Ah, the Hallmark holiday of Valentine’s Day. It’s a day of love and romance. It’s a day to show your significant other how much they mean to you. It’s a day that many stress about to get it just right. How do you show your special someone that you really care about them?
The standard Valentine’s Day routine is to give gifts of chocolate and flowers and dinner for two. While this is likely a break from the norm of everyday life, it’s not terribly creative. There are ways to make this basic formula better though.
To put together an outstanding Valentine’s Day, the first thing you will need to do is arrange for the day off for you and your significant other. Do whatever needs to be done – call the boss, arrange for a day at the kennel for the dog, a play date or babysitter for the kids. Then pamper your significant other all day long.
Start with breakfast in bed. Put together a scrumptious breakfast of favorite breakfast treats. Or plan to go to a fancy breakfast at a local restaurant. Red, long-stemmed roses are perfect for decorating the tray or table. Champagne Mimosa with a lovely strawberry on top is the perfect breakfast drink.
After spending the morning together dining on wonderful food, head over to an upscale day spa. Arrange in advance to get the Valentine’s Day package or Romance package. Usually this will include rose petals, a candle lit room, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Have a couple’s massage where you are in the same room getting a massage.
For the evening, take your significant other out to her favorite restaurant or a romantic restaurant you’ve always wanted to try. Dress up for the dinner and go enjoy some wonderful food. Throughout dinner, make sure she feels like the most beautiful person in the room and gaze into each other’s eyes lovingly. How you finish the evening is up to you!
If you can’t get off work, then here is another variation on the traditional routine. Make a reservation for her favorite or romantic restaurant. Dress up before going to the house. When you either get home or go to pick her up, don’t just walk right into the house, ring the doorbell and wait to be let in. Have a bouquet of flowers in your hands. Again, when you go out, make her feel beautiful and special to you.
An alternative to taking flowers to greet your sweetie is to send them the workplace where everyone can admire them and she can think about you all day.
If you didn’t make dinner reservations in advance, there is an at home version that also works. If you can cook, put together a fabulous meal. If you can’t cook, get take-out from a fancy restaurant and set it out in real dinnerware (not in the box!). Light candles and put flower petals on the table.
If you can swing it, one very special thing to do for your love is to clean the house! Yes, that’s right, a clean house will make her feel incredibly special and loved. She will appreciate you like you would not believe. Bonus points if you clean the house yourself!
