Macaroni Grill in Houston, Texas: A Short Review

Macaroni Grill is a chain restaurant but despite this each individual place has some differences may that be in the service or the actual chefs in the kitchen. The one in the Westheimer location is Houston is probably the best one in the city and it is very often crowded even if they have a big space.

The restaurant is located at 5802 Westheimer Road and their hours of operations are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Macaroni Grill serves Italian food that was inspired by the Mediterranean diet so they use a lot of olive oil and garlic but at the same time they made it with an American twist by adding chicken to their pastas and sometimes the sauce is a little too much and the portions are big so for that they are worth what you are paying for.

For appetizers go with the tomato bruschetta which come  with grape tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic and extra virgin olive oil for $5.99, or the fried mozzarella for $6.99 or even the crab stuffed mushrooms which are filled with crab meat, shrimp and Italian seasonings for $8.99 and this last one can actually make a small meal by itself.

For their extensive pasta selections go with the penne rustica which comes with shrimp, chicken, prosciutto and a Parmesan cream sauce for $12.99, or a great number of customer’s personal favorite which is build your own pasta where you can choose the pasta type, the sauce and toppings too for $9.99.

And they do have a good selection of desserts such as the panna cotta which comes with strawberries and hazelnut for $2.99, or the caffe affogato which is Italian vanilla gelato topped with espresso and Frangelico liqueur for $3.99 just to name  a few

The food in general gets a solid B, because it is good and cooked just right plus the wine suggestions with some of the dishes is a nice touch., while the service gets a C because half of the time you will get good service but the other half of the time you will not, and it can get loud which is why is a perfect place to bring your screaming children as they can color on the mats and nobody else will stare since everyone else is equally loud. One drawback is that you may have a over twenty minute wait on Friday and Saturday.
