The beloved and absorbent marine creature that is SpongeBob SquarePants will premiere a new episode Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on the social-networking site — a day before it airs on Nickelodeon.
The show has a new five-episode series that the network has dubbed “The Legends of Bikini Bottom.” The first episode, titled “Trenchbillies,” will be shown tonight on the blue-eyed sponge’s Facebook page — www.facebook.com/spongebob — where the show has more than 16-million “fans.”
Among the “Legends of Bikini Bottom” guest-voices will be Amy Sedaris (as Ma Angler) and Ginnifer Goodwin (as Mermaid).
Since Stephen Hillenburg launched “SpongeBob” 12 years ago, the show — which draws roughly 70-million viewers monthly — has become the most widely distributed property in MTV Networks’ history, generating more than $8-billion in worldwide retail sales.
Nickelodeon tells Comic Riffs that the episode will be up on Facebook for two weeks.
The first episode, “Trenchbillies” premiered on the SpongeBob Facebook page — where more than 16 million “fans” gather to discuss the show — on Thursday night. Friday it airs on Nickelodeon. Each episode will be available on Facebook for two weeks.
The episodes features guest stars Amy Sedaris and Gennifer Goodwin as the voices of Ma Angler and the Mermaid, respectively. The comedic series explores the underwater legend theme as SpongeBob and his starfish friend Patrick are captured and forced to pass a series of tests to win their freedom.
The other episodes are called “Sponge-Cano,” “The Main Drain,” “The Monster Who Came to Bikini Bottom,” and “The Bikini Bottom Triangle.”
