Rome wasn’t built in a day and you won’t get rid of an infestation in one either. Just stick to this plan and within a month, you’ll see big improvements. Within three months, your problem should be under control. If not, you have a bigger infestation than can be handled by yourself and it’s recommended you seek the services of a professional exterminator, like Terminex, who will handle almost any insect problem.

First. Scour and sweep the entire house. Even if your dog lives entirely outside, you must do this. Fleas jump and can be carried inside by you after normal animal car, like feeding and watering. Wash or seal up blankets, curtains, bedding, etc.. Anything cloth should be steam cleaned if can’t be washed in hot water. Mix a bleach solution of 1/4 cup per gallon of warm water and wipe down everything you can reach. This leaves a slight bleach residue that these and other insects find distasteful.

Next, bathe your pet with dawn dish washing soap. Use a lice comb to remove nits and eggs. Start at the face and work your way to the tail. If this step can’t be done, then repeat the above steps every ten days. All the eggs will be hatched then and wash off easily, as the dawn leaves a slightly greasy film that will detour the flea from holding on to the fur.

Any area your dog has access to must be cleaned with this bleach solution, including yards, dog houses, and cars. For yards, if you can keep the animal out of it for 2 weeks, and spray with a mix of dawn and bleach water, the eggs will have all hatched and died from lack of a food source.

Once this has all been done, preferably in the same 24 hour time period, get a new flea collar. They make ones now that are organic, but it’s recommended that you get a monthly flea treatment, like Frontline plus. Your local grocery store also carries both the collars and medication, but the strength of these is unknown compared to the products your vet has access to.

Repeat these steps every ten days for three months and you’ll never have fleas again. Worried about re-infestations from neighborhood dogs? Line your yard with a bleach water solution and do the above steps once a month. You’ll never see another flea.
